Do you think it is possible to port the software Discord to Morphos?

The official Discord client software is not open source.

As long as I can run it through Wayfarer then that is good enough for me. It just would not work on my iBook G4, machine. As soon as I get the G5 one it should work better with it.

And if you have a PC, but want to sit in front of the MorphOS machine, you can use RDesktop too. I have a Windows PC in another room, but can use it for Discord etc. with RDesktop on MorphOS. Unfortunately it needs Pro version of Windows nowadays IIRC, but XRDP on Linux works too.

This would allow access to most of the MorphOS Discord server channels including many of its gimmicks which are not available with a classic IRC client.

So discord client exclusive for morphoS community? I like it. How come such client not written yet?

It is possible to set up so called "bridges" between these platforms, and share discussions between them. There's even Matrix to IRC bridge, which let's some kind of discussion between IRC and Discord through Matrix. All features of each platform can't be exchanged, but at least texts and in certain amount images can be. Matrix probaby can do something more too, compared to IRC which is a text-only protocol.

The problem generally is that some of these platforms are closed from unofficial clients (like Discord), and rest of them are quite demanding to implement and keep up-to-date with new features etc.. As there are so many different platforms now and new are coming constantly, it's hard to decide which would be the best one to support? Where the people are? Will the people stay there or move over another platform in few years? Can you justice the amount of work required with the risk that nobody uses your program after some years? It's easier to stay in IRC which has been there for ages :)

Why does Discord need additional funding? Because the company has been losing millions of dollars every year.

Given its current market share, it may seem far fetched that Discord could go anywhere but there was a time when people felt the same way about MySpace or Skype.

As a stopgap, libPurple has a Discord client plugin that is based on the ReST interface of Discord. Do we have an Adium/Pidgin port that can use libPurple and its plugins? I know that Pidgin, Adium, libPurple and the Discord client plug-in have open-source on GitHub and had previously posted the links on the wishlist on the MorphOS Discord channel.

Forget Discord, we have IRC. Imagine an XMPP client, though. I don't think MorphOS has one. Yet I would much rather have an actual working port of VLC Media Player on MorphOS. It's been ported to Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and even Haiku and PowerPC Linux repositories, but not MorphOS. It's currently on version 3.0.21, which released in 2024.

The current VLC on MorphOS is of a Beta release over 15 years ago and is essentially nothing but VLC in name only.

Actually, it has two:

Jabberwocky
Kwakwa with jabber.module

I never used Kwakwa and haven't used Jabberwocky in many years. Back then, Jabberwocky's compatibility with Jabber/XMPP servers was okay, but its lack of SSL/TLS capability surely hasn't helped with that.
