is it just me or is wayfarer not usuable anymore.
I remember getting a powerbook G4 and my first time running mos.
The OWB browser ran every web page i normally used on my PC with no issues at all.
    I now use an isight 2.1ghz G5.
    Cant hardly load anything.
I barely got youtube to load one video
and you need massive amounts of patience to even do that

If i have the wrong preferences could someone share their working prefs with me?
I have maxed out all caches in the OS and browser
    filesystem, disk, browser

I can run OWB and its quite fast but of course its outdated and gets lots of errors
i tried netsurf but it wont load anything

my email is rll@twc.com if you have a working prefs for wayfarer.
    I am licensed now
I updated wayfarer. i think its 11.1 now.
    it self updated

So to use YouTube, you use a PC or a cell phone.
Morphos and a Mac aren't powerful enough to watch YouTube.
    We have to accept it.
OWB is still usable on the major Amiga and e- sites.
That's why OWB is still used with such satisfaction.
For the rest, Wayfarer works great.
You have to be aware of what you can do with Morphos. For the rest, if you want convenience, you have to use a PC or a cell phone.
I have the same Mac as you, an iMac G5 Isight, and it's a wonderful machine, dual-booting with Sorbet Leopard.

At the end of the day Wayfarer is very usable for a lot of things, much more than anything else I have tried on MorphOS for web browsing, dare I say and any other Amigaish system..

I use it daily work and fun and love it. Sure, you will run into a absolute wall with some website, as there is only so much a single processor and core can deliver, but given what it does and how well it is updated to the latest webkits. I'm frankly amazed, Jacek isn't a mortal programmer :)

Tips for Wayfarer to increase performance and make a noticeable difference (in my testing and on my system):
    1. Turn on disk cache in system.
    2. Turn on balanced for wayfarer in settings.
    3. Use a proxy.
    4. Make sure wayfarer is on the fastest device possible, even it is faster than the system can utilize.
    5. Increase buffers for the Drive.

On my PowerMac 11,2 with SSD's, doing all 5 of those items made a very noticeable improvement with using wayfarer. I have no idea which ones make more of a difference, but after I did the above it made it much more usable.. ymmv...

Youtube videos should just work with default settings. I suggest you start from a clean install of Wayfarer if you're running into issues and reduce the video quality to 720/480p. Using Auto quality is the source of most issues since youtube might randomly try to switch to 1080p.

Wayfarer is pretty impressive, it's the hardware that is slow. Look, I recently moved to SailfishOS for my mobile phone. I was pretty surprised that their inbuild browser is way beyond Wayfarer. Things were just not working. And Sailfish is YAL
And here, on this non-*nix system, we got a browser that works great which is really not a given.
Unfortunately the hardware is weak. And yes, Odyssey was way faster, I also miss the speed. But I appreciate very, very much that we have such a powerful browser- but you're better off, if not in a hurry ;-)

PS: on Sailfish I am now using Vivald via the Android wrapper. Vivaldi is pretty neat.

    3. What proxy are you using? I set one up on my NAS and point to it...
    4. How do I make it the fastest device? I should have been more specific here. I have 2 SSD's in my PM, one is compatible and slower and one is faster. I bought the fastest SSD I could find and put that in as a second drive. I put wayfarer and iris and other needy software on it. Even if it is faster than the controller in the system itself it can still make a difference. For the least amount of frustration (and reboots :) ) it is best practice to put a compatible device in the powermacs. So I have a Nvidia/apple card, so the system boots perfectly and then have a non-apple 1950 Radeon. Same with the SSD, If you put in devices not recognized by the powermac, it will be almost random if it boots, I would guess the OF needs to hookup just right with timing for a successful boot. It will work 100% when it boots up with no issues, and I ran that way for a year or two but you just need to deal with reseting it until it does. Putting in the compatible as well makes the 11,2 boot perfectly every single time. This is for the powermac 11,2 only btw...
    5. How do I increase buffers? You could also go into HDConfig in system, select the partition and increase buffers changing the value and saving...

It will also help to run on a fast system if you want to daily drive MorphOS and use it for productivity. I use my system for 8 hours a day for work almost exclusevily now and it is very fast, stable, and the software is very capable.

The fastest system is still the 2.7GHz powermac AGP system, I went with a 2.5GHz PCIe single processor system. It is pretty close and faster for somethings. Wayfarer and playback of movies needs cpu power at the end of the day.

    Hi, everyone

First of all, congratulations @jacadcaps on the incredible work you’ve done and are continuing to do with the Wayfarer browser, it’s undoubtedly a gem among all Amiga programs, and we should all be excited about it

I have a question, specifically for @jacadcaps, because there’s something I don’t understand, and I wanted to figure out if it’s my “mistake”, maybe I need to make some kind of change to a variable via the shell, or if there are other reasons, and of course, how to fix it, if it can be fixed
I’m experiencing these issues on every MorphOS machine, whether it’s a G5 system (AGP and PCIe) or a G4 system, even though I have a fast 1 Gbps FTTH Internet connection.

The problem is that I’m experiencing very slow downloads via Wayfarer, and this puzzles me: for example, if I download the MorphOS 3.20 .iso file from the MorphOS website using a Mac or PC, I get a download speed of about 65 Mb/s, whereas if I download the same file from a MorphOS machine, the maximum download speed I get is about 1.8 Mb/s
I encounter this issue on any other download site as well; the highest speed I’ve achieved so far with Wayfarer (on a software download from a Microsoft site) was just over 4 Mb/s, but the same file, when downloaded from a Mac or PC, gives me 107 Mb/s , essentially huge differences (if anyone wants to test this out of curiosity, the file used in this last example is this one https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=108244 )
That said, if I use another MorphOS app for receiving data, specifically TRANSFER and connect via SSH (SFTP) to a system on another external Internet connection, also using 1 Gbps FTTH fiber, I get a speed of about 13 Mb/s, which isn’t bad. However, if I connect using TRANSFER via SSH (SFTP) to a system on the internal 1 Gbps LAN, I get 20 Mb/s which isn’t bad in this case either, or at least it’s sufficient considering that on the PowerMac G5 PCIe system used as an example, the internal SSD handles both read and write data transfers correctly at 130 Mb/s and ethernet card is 1gbps in switch device 1gbps

To try to optimize performance as much as possible, I set both buffers in the Ethernet settings (both on the PowerMac G5 7.3 with onboard Ethernet and on the PowerMac G5 11.2 with the RTL8168) to the maximum value of 64k, then I set the system disk cache to the maximum on the system partition where Wayfarer is also installed, increased the drive buffer, enabled “Balanced” for Wayfarer in the settings, and set the browser cache to the maximum. I also tried setting the download destination to RAM, in addition to the system SSD volume

Despite all this, downloads are still slow, and I’d like to be able to fix this problem, since I understand that I can’t download files via a browser at 107 Mb/s on a G5 or G4 system, but at least 20 Mb/s would be desirable, especially since, as I mentioned earlier, I get 20 Mb/s via the TRANSFER app MorphOS using SFTP over SSH on an internal 1 Gbps LAN, so the Ethernet card in MorphOS can handle that throughput

Wayfarer has nothing to do with your download speeds, I'm afraid. What is your FTTH device? If it comes with 2.5Gbps ports, do you connect MorphOS machine directly or through some switch/router? Auto-negotiation could be falling back to 100Mbps for you for example.

Here's 2 things you could try:

    a) see https://wayfarer.icu/faq / "How can I use a VPN for geo-blocked websites?" and configure a local ssh proxy on some linux/windows (with WSL) machine if you have one (must be done locally)

    b) enable logs: in a shell type
    ed boot:bootinfo.txt
locale the booot &device... line and add ed=init at the end of it. save
    hfssetmacboot boot:bootinfo.txt
(don't forget that line or system won't boot)
reboot and get the system log with the Debug screenbar or LogTool, send it to me or paste it here

    Thanks @jacadcaps for your help.
    It's FTTH with 2 Ethernet ports at 1 Gbps each + 0.5 Gbps Wi-Fi (1+1+0.5 = 2.5 Gbps) via the FRITZ!Box 5530 Fiber router model
I normally use a 1 Gbps Ethernet port connected to an 8-port 1 Gbps switch, because that’s already more than enough throughput, but in this case for test, I simply connected only a PowerMac G5 directly to one of the two 1 Gbps Ethernet ports on the FRITZ!Box 5530 Fiber router (so without any 8-port 1 Gbps switch connected), and the other 1 Gbps Ethernet port is not connected to anything

In addition to attaching the log file with the debugging procedure you indicated, I’m also attaching three screenshots where you can see that MorphOS reports the negotiation as 1 Gbps, but then in terms of download speed in Wayfarer—for example, the MorphOS ISO is downloading at about 1.8 Mb/s, and also for example, the Microsoft Exchange file is downloading at about 4 Mb/s; finally, when using the TRANSFER app via SFTP SSH on the internal LAN, the speed is about 15 Mb/s.
If it were negotiating at 10 Mbps, we’d have a theoretical maximum of 1.25 Mb/s, but that’s not the case because the speeds are much higher; if it were negotiating at 100 Mbps instead, we’d have a theoretical maximum of 12.5 Mb/s, but even in this case that’s not the case because, as you can see, we’re already at about 15 Mb/s with the APP TRANSFER app via SFTP (and in any case, as I wrote in my previous message, we can even reach 20 Mb/s with the APP TRANSFER app via SFTP on MorphOS over the LAN)
So there's something preventing us from fully utilizing the full Ethernet throughput, and this is particularly noticeable when using the browser

It negotiates to 1Gbps which is fine. 10Mbps isn't even a possibility with your hardware, btw.

Your only option to improve speed right now is to go the proxy route. I've just downloaded the MorphOS ISO at 17695kB/s here with a local proxy.
