This is just a curiosity of mine, the results of which will be in no wise conclusive of all MorphOS users, but I must satiate it, anyways.

How many of you all are Mac users first, that later discovered and installed MorphOS and were happy that MorphOS could be installed on your Mac,

or

how many of you all are Amiga users first, that only ended up owning a Mac by means of obtaining MorphOS, and were essentially averse to the idea of touching an Apple product beforehand?

Essentially it boils down to:
Mac OS X ====> MorphOS
or
Amiga ====> MorphOS

I bet 99% or more are Amiga users that continued with MorphOS when AmigaOS development stalled.

I don't care that much which HW I'm using, it's the software that matters. My story is C64 -> A500 -> A1200 -> Expanded A1200 (Zorro2->Mediator, 030->060, etc.) -> Pegasos 1 -> Mac mini. After going to RTG/AHI on Amigas and end of Commodore, HW became meaningless. Now I'm waiting the better version of Mirari as my main system, Macs are OK till then, AMD64 will be nice some day. You can't compete with the mainstream on the HW side anymore, and everything is powerful enough anyway. I don't care about macOS at all, but Apple HW is usually better than custom HW that is made in small batches, a safer bet.

I truly doubt there is even a single user (and by that I mean, *active* MorphOS user) which came outside of the amiga scope. I am also with jPV regarding hw and I am also tempted about Mirari but I don't find it so far much faster than my current Mac systems tbh. Perhaps the bigger version might be more tempting after some benchmarks and actual everyday usage videos are released.

I estimate that over the years there have been at most a dozen MorphZone members who disclosed having come to MorphOS from a non-Amiga context. How much of them are still active MorphOS users is anyone's guess.

I might be a bit of an oddity (well, that's been said a lot) in that I was primarily a Mac user first, but my arriving at MorphOS has nothing to do with that since MorphOS can't run on most of my Macs. I discovered MorphOS by way of getting back into Amiga 1200, then realising that my first Mac (G4 Mini) could run MorphOS. So really, a mix of both your scenarios.

I used to hate Apple Hardware, but now that you can get a PCIe G5 at 2.5 GHz cheap enough and with lots of power in Amigaland.

But I was Amiga from the beginning. My last Amiga was a 3000 in the 90's that I tried to get to do things and it was getting to be a struggle. Now, as mentioned, MorphOS Software Applications are very good, so I'm happy...

I never used my PowerBook to run MacOSX/OSX because I'm not interested in old Apple systems. I only had a Windows computer for a few years, and I used it just to make apps for Mophun, GameBoy Advance, Java2ME, and Symbian.
Apart from MorphOS, I only use macOS, tvOS, iOS, and iPadOS. These systems need more modern devices, which have nothing to do with MorphOS.

MacOS(X) didn’t matter to me when I started using MorphOS. In 2003, it was a natural move from AmigaOS3/PPC/gfx. I was waiting for the AmigaONE computer, but when the first one came out, it didn’t have AmigaOS4/PPC. I felt very disappointed and even a bit cheated. :)
The Polish IRC community convinced me to buy a Pegasos I G3 with MorphOS 1.3 (I updated to 1.4 right away).
One big reason I chose MorphOS was a Pegasos + MorphOS show in Łódź, Poland around 2002. MorphOS 1.3 was missing some features, but it made a strong impression on me. It felt like the system I needed.

To this day, MorphOS is the best AmigaOS I could ever dream of. And I think it will stay that way - I've spent more time with MorphOS than I probably have left in life. :)

In my case the second option, I'm anti Apple but with MorphOS running on these machines I change the opinion and more when I bought several Sams and AmigaOS4 never was perfect when you have to pay for everything, updates, drivers that haven't 3D support, etc.

To be fair, when MorphOS got released for PPC Macs in 2009, the MacOSX for them was just one major release behind the then-recent version for Intel Macs. I resorted to it for purposes lacking in MorphOS, similar to the way I had resorted to Yellow Dog Linux on my Pegasos I before. The situation looked worse for MacOSX/PPC when MorphOS was released for PowerBooks in 2012, though.

I really like PPC but still hate Apple Hardware. Also no OS X for me, only MorphOS and Linux.

Never owned an Amiga or any Commodore hardware. Was very expensive in my country when I was young and we could not afford it.

I however have been a long time Mac user, since G3's late in the 90's.

I also collect old Mac hardware for some reason. I discovered MorphOS by accident as I was also distro hopping on my Mac Pro 5,1's and my PowerPC mac's was just sitting there with old OSX versions.

The little boy in me got very excited again by the thought of owning an Amiga-like OS and bought a license for my iMac 20" iSight.

Even though I can afford an Amiga now, getting one my country has proven extremely hard to come by.

I loved the way the community accepted a total n00b with 0 experience of Amiga-like OS's and answered all my stupid questions.

The OS is also very fun to use, extremely fast and gets regular updates.

I’m an avid Amiga user and never had any interest in Macs. I only picked up this Mac Mini G4 to run MorphOS, and honestly, I’ve never been one for using old hardware unless it’s a classic Amiga or a C64. :) So for now, I’m just patiently waiting for the Mirari board.

I guess my most used device ever is the g4 mini running MorphOS. In operation with MorphOS for 16 years now, many years my daily driver. Apple did a good job on that machine.

Maybe the Apples (except the powerbook) get retired once Mirari sees the light.

I'm mainly an Amiga user. Macs rose my interest when MorphOS started using them. I don't care much about Mac OS X or macOS. With my MorphOS machines I'm quite satisfied, but Mirari is very interesting and I consider it buying, when it will be availabe.
