I keep having the same problem with morphvnc .. Sometimes certain keys don't work. It's always the same keys.. AEIOU and a couple of others. I can reboot the machine and usually it works, but that gets tiring.

Has anyone else experienced this (anyone else using it? :-))

Yeah, I do ;)

Another guy had some other strange keyboard problem, he sometimes gets accented characters.

But so far I have been unable to reproduce it here on my machine, so if you want to give me some hints on how you do it, which server you are using, etc, please do.

I'll play around with it this weekend and see what I can find. Perhaps it's some kind of combination of apps or something.

On the PC, I'm using Ultr@VNC for the server. I tried another, but I had wierd graphical problems with it.

Pressing CTRL+ESC to exit MorphVNC leaves CTRL key held down on remote machine. When you reconnect all your keystrokes are CTRL+something.
Solution: hit CTRL when you connect.

About amivnc server: It doesn't work on my peg + realvnc so I asked author to fix it. He said he's working on improved version.
Unfortunately guy is from OS4-team and said he'll make it OS4-only because won't give it to 'hostile mos kids'.

@porneL:

You need to hit control and escape? I just press escape and it exits.

@bigfoot:

Unfortunately, I don't think this is going to be much help. I can't find anything special that's going on when this happens. If keys aren't working, I either just need to retry a few times, or exit the shell, start a new one and then try again.

The software I have running when this is going on is dnet_ppc, ibrowse and yam.

Told ya.. Not much help.

In newer versions, quit has been changed to ctrl+escape, mainly to allow vi to work through VNC :)

Well, I'd like to know at least which VNC server you are connected to when this happens. I only use tightvncserver under Linux.

Did I miss this someplace? I could swear on a stack of bibles that I looked for a newer one.

Is it possible to have MorphVNC send mouse3 and mousewheel events as well? That would really make my life easier since I use the mousewheel to switch workspace on my linux gateway.

I didn't have much luck with morphvnc - I mainly use VVA client
instead.

The current, soon to be released version does send info about all 3 mouse buttons.

However, AFAICT, the protocol does not allow for mouse wheel info to be sent.

I can use the mouse wheel when using the viewer from tightvnc on Linux. But I will survive with 3 mouse buttons. Looking forward to the release.
Oh, and btw, is it possible to run MorphVNC in a window instead of fullscreen?

Thanks for the tip.

I had a look at the tightvnc sources, mousewheel up is cosidered the 4th mouse button, and mousewheel down is considered the 5th mouse button. Very smart :)

Well, now MorphVNC also supports that.

Windowmode will be added RSN :)

Great work, thanks :). I can finally switch workspaces with the wheel.

Hmm, maybe I could make one more request :). I have a problem with both vva and MorphVNC, the @-sign is written by holding down right-alt (Alt Graph) while pressing '2' on swedish keyboards. For some reason when doing this in vva or MorphVNC the cursor just pops back one position and locks the terminal, I have to ctrl+c to go on using it. The only way I can write '@' or '|' etc is by copy/paste which is quite annoying :(. I'm hoping you might have some idea how to fix this.

VNC is a standardized way of controlling a computer from remote. Basically you run a server on the computer you want to control and then you can connect to that computer from another computer using a VNC client. When you connect using MorphVNC you get the display of the remote computer on your computer and you control it's mouse-cursor and keyboard input.

On my Gentoo Linux gateway I run a VNC server where I'm running a mail client (Sylpheed-Claws), ICQ (Gaim), IRC and some other stuff. That way I can access my mail/icq etc from anywhere on the Internet provided that the computer has a VNC client (or that I can install one). And since the gateway is running 24/7 I never have to worry about not being able to access my mail :).

You can find a screenshot of VVA controlling a Linux box from AmigaOS here: http://dspach.free.fr/amiga/vva/vva-shoot2.png

@Magnetic

VNC allows you to remotely control a computer running a VNC server. In short, it lets you use some computer thousands miles away like you were there controlling it (though screenupdate isnt just as quick ;-)

Well, I can reproduce a problem with the swedish keymap and alt-2, though I get a slightly different effect.

I'll look into it soon.

The mouse cursor shown is remotely controlled. If there is a big lag between the client and the server, the mouse movement will be lagged as much, which is probably the effect you're describing.

Usualy, I use VVA, but yesterday I tryed morphVNC. Picture is realy better because it'snt compressed, but it's very slower.
I saw on the readme morphVNC supports some compressions, but what are the arguments to activate compression?
