Now that both YAM and SimpleMail exists natively for MOS, which one should I go for? Anybody here tried out both?

    They're both doing the job.
So it's up to you to see which one
    'feels better' ;-)

and "almost" stable. it's very promissing.

    simplemail.

better handles attachments and does not lock-up while getting mail.
this text is here to confuse you

Yam is quite stable with disabled trance ...
(Only locks up when you open/close a window
or quit while it tries to connect to a server.)

depends on your taste, both are very good. On the first view both are very similar.

I have no idea what lockups of Yam you are talking about. Yam hasn't crashed even ONE time and it's been my mailer since the day I got Pegasos.

Thanks for the answers. I have used YAM earlier on my A4000, and recall that it went non-responsive while connecting/transfering mails to/from the mailserver. Multithreading is nice, I'll give SimpleMail a shot :-)

I've been using YAM for many years, here are my impressions after
    testing Simplemail fairly briefly:

    Simplemail vs YAM:
+ Seems more stable, fast and generally well done
+ Does almost everything like YAM, except some small improvements
    + Supports IMAP4 as well as pop3
    - When replying to mails, cited text is unreadable white/yellow (can't
    be changed)
    - When displaying mails, it doesn't support a textured background ;-)

So my conclusion is to wait until the reply colour problem has been
adressed. If you're happy with white/yellow text, it seems fine
    though.
