Hi guys!

Next month I am getting 40EUR expensive 1.25Ghz G4 PowerBook with R9200 and only 1GB RAM. Will try to expand the RAM.

It comes with Leopard as all PowerMacs do. Would love to add Linux to it and I see its somewhat recommended in order to partition disk anyway. Then I would love to have MOS.

BUT how to do third install beyond creating the partition and how to setup and run those triple boots?

From Apples firmware?
Is there any solution close to LILO?
By booting via live discs to Linux and MOS?

I am also able to get quad core G5 2.5 GHz for 100$. Any idea when will (one core) it be supported in MOS?

You might want to try out MacOS and Linux on your Powerbook first before you commit to a quad-core G5, which does consume a lot of power even when it is powered off.

In my opinion, the best Mac to run MorphOS right now is probably a Powerbook with 128MB of graphics memory. It can be used as both a mobile and desktop machine (just close the lid after pressing the power on button and the internal display remains switched off). The performance is comparable to a lower-end PowerMac G5 but the fan noise and power consumption are notably better.

A powered-off device consuming power? How would that work?

There are no plans to support it.

Too bad, its cheap compared to its quite modern specs (RAM, PCI-E ...), its an x1000-x5000 killer. Plus raw single core G5 2.5GHz + PCI-E RadeonHD performance could do wonders in MOS 3.11+ and would give a great boost in linux and MacOS X.

With G5, iMacs and even x1000 there seems to be some more hardware space left for MOS "to do" before or even after x86 tranistion (in PPC version). A MOS4 64-bit PPC version for G5, x1000, x5000 supporting multicore and 8GB RAM would also be great, if possible, equalizing MOS there to MacOS X and Linux.

Surely,I will enjoy the PowerBook too and MOS is a champ on 1GB.

Very interesting read, thank you for the link. It seems to come down to the meter quality. While cheap meters seem to measure 30+ W for powered-off state, more sophisticated meters seem to measure only 0.9...3.7 W for same state:

Maybe an electrical engineer can shed some light on the reason(s) for the discrepancy.

Current and voltage are out a sync, hence energy direction is changing 100times/s.

A cheap meter that will only do current*voltage=power will fail here.

The meter of the provider will notice that and you'll only pay the actual difference, but they also hate that kind of "Blindstrom" as it does put load onto the cables.

Basically anything that isn't a simple resistor has this issue and providers insist that bigger customers cancel it out on their side.
