I've had a question about Ambient's lister functionality for years. It's not a serious issue, so I never asked about it - until now.

When Ambient's lister is in file list mode, right-clicking on a file name brings up the correct context menu, with the expected options for that file type. However, when I right-click on the icon next to the file name, the context menu is not what it should be.
What’s interesting is that in icon view mode, right-clicking on a file icon opens the expected context menu.

Is there any significant reason for this behavior? If not, perhaps it could be changed in a future version of MorphOS?

Not sure what your issue is, right clicking on an icon brings up a context menu relevant to an icon file.

    Really? I'm surprised! :)
On my MorphOS it looks like on this screenshot.
So I have to check my filetype settings...
    Thank you.

When right-clicking the icon file in the List mode, you get the same context menu as you'd right-clicked on the window title bar, any other columns in the list view, or any other "empty" area of the window. This lets you to do window related operations like changing the view mode etc.. Filetype related context menu opens only when you right-click the filename, so it's consistent in that regard. I don't see any issues in this.

Edit: or if you're nitpicking, maybe icon column should also open the filetype specific context menu, because in the icon mode it does that when clicking on an icon.. you don't have to click on the name then. But generally speaking, only the name column opens the filetype specific menu in the list mode, which has been the easiest solution by coding I guess :)

O.k. it seems I misread what the issue was.

You are not clicking on the #####.info entry, but on small icon on the left.

Yeah right clicking on anything but the filename (not just the icon) will give you the window's CM.
It would kinda make sense if the file specific CM would appear on every part of an entry, but that would make it a bit harder to hit the window CM.
One could also ask for setting file attributes by CM on the attributes column.

If I ever get to making that stuff modular (next year at best) you might wanna bring this up again.

    @jPV, @Kronos:
Ah, I see. I just expected that after selecting any part of the file, I would see a context menu for that file. But that's not a problem. I can definitely live with it. :)

Ambient is still the best solution available on MorphOS/AmigaOS. I really enjoy using it. It's hard to believe the long and challenging development journey it has taken to reach its current state.
    Thanks for your answers.
