PowerMac instability? Change the RAM.

When I first started using MorphOS on my MDD, I'd have the occasional random hard lockup. I suspected RAM, but the RAM would pass software tests. Eventually I bought the highest quality RAM sticks I could find and slapped them in. I have not had a hard lock up since and I have lost count of how much time has passed. Lockups just don't happen on the MDD, at all, while using MorphOS 3.X.

Fast forward to G5 support added. My G5 system would get the same random lockup. I put in a known quality RAM and wham, MorphOS is again rock solid with no lockups at all. I am also using an R300 card and have no mouse pointer issues.

If you are having problems, RAM should be the first place to go. Get high quality RAM from a reputable source.

Just wanted to share. I'd hate to think there could be people out there getting random lockups and thinking it is due to MorphOS. It isn't, MorphOS is amazingly rock solid.

I had the same problem and the same solution on my PowerBook G4 5,8. I reccomend the same fix to anyone else having similar problems too.

    Good to hear!

I believe my current G5s have the stock ram that came with them, but my other ram sticks were Kingston. Another tower had some other branded ram sticks but didn't give me a problem yet. But as redrumloa said, good idea to start at the memory modules!

I had the same randon lock ups and after changing the ram they dissapeared. Runs very stable and solid. I'm just a lil bit suprized that every legacy app that i've used hits the system.

With RAM stability issues, it may also be a good idea to reset the PMU.
