If you are having issues with usb on G5 please post here.

1) I am not able to use my scanner which is the one the scnadal author uses.

2) When I plug in thumbdrives they do not automount. I use to be able to reboot to get them now even that does not work.

3) Poseidon locks up when a usb device is plugged in.

4) Any attempt to use mounter for usbscsi.device results in a lockup.

If I had more usb devices i guess the list would go on and on....

No issues here, I was able to use the USB ports in the front and rear to hook up any number of external hard drives. I have a 7,3 2.7ghz g5 power mac.

No problems here, 2.7 DP 7,3.

Sounds like you might have failing hardware on the mobo.

What happens if you try USB when booting from a livecd?

I will try usb from a live cd.
maybe the OS is bunk.

ok, my raid jbod box automounted with no issues using usb 2.0 cable.

Thumb drive is going bad.

Boot off cd results:

1) thumb drive works fine.
2) scanners issues continue.


Reboot into OS:

1) thumbdrive comes up and works. No block errors in poseidon.
2) scanner immediately recognized and now working.



Is this some sort of issue like the ones with the 9800 video card where if you reboot suddenly everything works?

oh, well, it all works. I will avoid rebooting if possible.
guess its time for the license if I am going to be able to do that.

Could be some weird initialization error that only happens once in a while or a sign of hardware that's on it's way out.

Any devs here reading this?

For what it's worth, external usb hd and usb stick work without any problems on my dp 2.3

It seems to make a difference if the drive is plugged in when you boot.
My scanner is coming up every time if it is plugged in before booting.

I use a kvm to switch between the G5 and the windows laptop.
Now when I switch back to the G5 sometimes it locks up.
Good grief.

I share a keyboard and mouse between the two.
