It sort of bothers me when people post about the lack of expansion on the latest Mac Pro. Here is just how wrong you are:

This isnt a slam, but your most definitely not a professional. I cant wait to get my new Mac Pro system. It what most have wanted for a long long time!

As far as expanding it, your wrong on all accounts. Here is how its done these days:

    PCIe: http://www.magma.com/expressbox-3t

    Drive bay: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816151134&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-RAID+Enclosure%2fSubsystems-_-N82E16816151134&gclid=CISWp7qowbgCFS_ZQgodcFsAxQ

    Video Production: http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/

    Monitors: http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/07/asus-shows-off-its-first-thunderbolt-monitor-along-with-3d-and/

And these are only a small fraction of the things becoming available. Keeping in mind the new Mac Pro has several Thunderbolt ports and you can daisy chain devices through one!

I cant wait to get mine!

I have seen the presentation on Apple's website. Looks very nice indeed.

I hope they can deliver what they promise !

i kinda agree with you Acill, there are more than enough options to expand this new mac pro with lots of addons, but there are downsides :

    - the design is amazing, very pure, but the whole idea breaks when you think of all the cables you'll have to deal with on your desk, this machine will soon look like an octopus and loose the purity of the design

    - all ports are badly located, it will be a pain in the ass to access it without rotating your machine, especially if you want to have a clean desk and put the macpro on the floor.

    - HDD/SSD upgrades will be very pricey, PCIe SSDs are so expensive

but i still think it looks like a fantastic machine.

the new mac pro is nice, but technically it is a macmini in a trashcan. It's far from the idea of a desktop computer, where you can change/upgrade every parts of the machine. So it is a troyan horse machine: nice in your desktop, but if you have to change something you must buy a new one.

I like it. Hooligan's jpg is overkill. all extenal devices are more or less wireless, or micro now, so clutter isn't that much of an issue.
I wouldn't exactly call this a mini in a trashcan. infact I wish this was my mini. We have had our issues with futuristic design
concepts too. search amiga walker for laughs.

Cables are not an issue. You can have a single cable running from one Thunderbolt port and to the first expansion box. From there you can chain them all together one after the other. All you hardware can be put into a single location out of the way this way. As far as whats inside, you will never need to upgrade that stuff for a long time to come. The video cards alone can each drive four 4k displays. That is insane power. The CPUs are amazing, dont forget I work at Intel now and have been building and testing them for the last year. they are truly unbeatable at the moment.

well, it looks really impressive, but... with all the power... i expect, that above the new mac pro, have to be a lot of free space, as it will produce heat like a small jet engine :)

Wut? If you're going to do that, why not move the Powermac into the overheating cupboard and have only 1 cable going to your monitor?

Just trying to imagine the cable nightmare with all the wall wart power supply and all that rubbish.

Although that said, this does look like a nice update to the Macmini
