    1) usb webcam, tiny one for my powerbook? software? Poseidon support? google chat?

    2) Accelerators for Powerbook G4? Do they exist?

    3) IPP on port 3911. Can Morph print using IPP? not really hardware.

    4) MPlayer - powerbook compatible? Won't run for me. Does it need a 3D driver?

    5) Tor network? Supported?

    6) usb hd tv? i have a usb haupauge hd tv tuner.,

    7) can you put a bluray in a powerbook? will it be backwards compatible with cd/dvd? i know we dont have a bluray FS.

    8) port opensource vmware to morph?

I ask a lot of questions, but if I don't push, no one pushes back.

    > google chat?

In case you mean Google Talk text chat: It uses Jabber/XMPP protocol, so you should be able to use any Jabber/XMPP client for that, e.g. Jabberwocky. That's also true for Facebook chat, btw.

    > 2) Accelerators for Powerbook G4? Do they exist?

AFAIK there were announced some by 3rd parties, but not released.

    > 4) MPlayer - powerbook compatible? Won't run for me. Does it need a 3D driver?

Should run and doesn't need 3D driver. No idea what's wrong here.

    > 6) usb hd tv?

I guess this uses isochronous transfer mode, which renders it futile with current pciusb.device.

    > 7) can you put a bluray in a powerbook? will it be backwards compatible with cd/dvd?

Yes and yes, for instance that one should work:

VMware has been open sourced? When?

IPP cannot be supported as netstack/drivers cannot handle multi cast.

Webcams (motion) do not work do the lack of iso transfer support within the usb drivers. Same reason for usb audio cards.

    MPlayer works fine on PowerBooks.

There is not enough power to handle HDTV. 720P may work depending on the coding, but if usb is involved, then forget it. USB eats CPU cycles like hell.

VMWare is not Open Sourced. Oracle's VirtualBox is Open Sourced though.

    wow, that was creepy.
The first link took me to a thread where I asked the same question about usb webcams a long time ago.
So Sonix is the answer so far and Jabberwocky.
I have Jabberwocky installed and created a new account recently.
I guess someone must invite you as I do not see a way to add someone.
I figured linux has vmware so it must be open source.
    Thanks for the bluray links.

I am not sure you can put a tray drive into a powerbook.
It uses a drive with auto insert.
The case design is different also.

Not sure if you can call it accelerator but there was a company called DayStar doing PowerBooks upgrade even up to 1.92Ghz:

There's documentation in the Jabberwocky archive that describes how to add contacts.

    > I figured linux has vmware so it must be open source.

This conclusion doesn't make sense. Linux software doesn't have to be open source.

Maybe the drive I linked to is no good for the PowerBook. I'm sorry if that's the case. I found it by looking for a slim Blu-ray drive with PATA connector that is still being sold in some places. I hope that another user can give you better advice.

Interesting. Thanks for the link. Btw, I found benchmarks for this:

What would be the reason to put a blue-ray drive on the PowerBook. I guess that there is no software that can play blue-ray movies under MacOSX or MorphOS -at least on the horsepower level of a PowerBook-.

You can use it for backup/restore and data storage.

P.S. I personally simply boot the ibook in target-mode and read/write my data via Firewire,

You are correct, we have no blu ray FS and we cannot burn to discs that are 25gb/50gb in size.
Sooo...its just one of those things. Maybe one day.
I like to upgrade like crazy after I buy something.
