    Hallo,
I'd like to know if there is some trick to speed up the initialization procedure of my powermac g4.
I mean the time from the pressure of the power button and the start of the boot procedure, because then morphos boot in a second! :-)
I've only one hard disk and a DVD ROM connected...
Thanx in advance for your suggestions!

The only way to speed up the initial Firmware startup would be to skip the
net boot function. But that is just a minor speed up.

    1. go into the open Firmware promt: restart your mac, press and hold command&option&o&f keys.
    2. release them when the prompt screen told you to.
    3. type "setenv skip-netboot? true" enter
    4. type "reset-all" enter
    (do not type the ")
    thats all I know.

Doesn't that only speed up the boot procedure when using the OpenFirmware boot menu, not when booting the "normal" way without user interaction?

Well, I think there's not much you can do. If the booting time isn't extremely low, you'll have to live with it. We'll have to face the fact, that the booting time on modern computers is longer than on the C64 or even the classic Amigas.

That is certainly the case on the Powerbook 5,6. I made this modification recently and tested boot times before and after: both were the same (~30 seconds from pressing power button to fully booted), however the Apple ('Alt') graphical boot menu becomes usable much more quickly (time until mouse pointer is active).

If you take some memory out, does it boot faster?
