    Hello!

Short version: I was messing with Morphos 2.7 (unregistered) and got a grey screen (fucked up my partition). Waited till 3.0 revision was out so as to format, install and register the machine immediately afterwards. Downloaded and burned the iso. Booted and all I get is a white screen saying "Quark/Openformware - console is active [...]".
My system is a PowerMac 3.1 (upgraded with G4 1,6Ghz, 2GB Ram etc).
The same behavior with Morphos 2.7 install cd (not isos' fault)!
The same behavior with either the c button hold down or alt (via boot menu).
    What can it be?

    Seems to be Radeon 9000:

Boot with MorphOS bootmenu - LMB or F1 at startup, BM boot parameter. Disable faulty partition, boot and fix with SFSDoctor or format.

    GFx is R9200 64MBVRAM.

Tried to boot as suggested and F1 doesn't do anything (continues to gray image) while LMB ejects the cd-rom (wtf?).

Moreover, when reaching the white screen, I have usb drop (no keyboard or mouse operating).

LMB/F1 is meant to be pressed at MorphOS startup, not computer startup.
To invoke bootmenu using bm parameter simply enter into OpenFirmware by presssing Alt Command O F at Mac startup.

    At OpenFirmware prompt type:

    boot hd:2,boot.img rd bm

or, if you want to boot from CD:

    boot cd,mac_ppc32/boot.img rd bm bd=CD0:

    Good morning!
Well I just tried both of the commands.
For the boot cd I get the following: "specified partition is not valid can't OPEN: mac-io/ata-4@1f000/00:6,\\:tbxi".
Regarding the other command, I get the following error: "LOAD (noninterposed) not supportedload-size=0 adler32=1 LOAD-SIZE is too small".

Alternatively, boot a live GNU/Linux distribution, wipe data from a hard disk. Also, disconnect HDD at all and check if MorphOS boots from CD. Maybe it's something different.

Ok, booted from Ubuntu PPC, erased and installed the OS just for fun. When rebooted though I got a black screen. Even changed the HD with a new one, but nothing happened. Booted again from MorhpOS 3.0 cd and miraculously the installation was started! Still, after the reboot I got various errors again in OF and I had onboard's usb drops! Well, that was it. I decided to uninstall the PCI NEC 2.0 USB card because I knew that the PCI slot was faulty but couldn't even imagine that it can cost so much damage to the system ffs (it powers the cards but they aren't recognized by the OS, dunno why).

That was it! I rebooted, formated the HD, install the OS and now I can enjoy my (stable) Mos system!

I am off to register it :P

Btw guys if you know, will this and/or this work frm a hardware and software point of view?

Both cards seem to belong to older (G3 ? Or even G2 ?) Macs so they probraly won't even work on a HW-Level.
Even if they would fit they would contain a PCI-2-PCI bridge which require extra drivers (that AFAIK don't exist in MorphOS).

Honestly if your PMac is known to have issues, buy another one (slow ones go for 50Euro or even free) transplant the 3rd-party CPU and register that system.

Registering a known faulty sys is just asking for headaches.

If 50 euro is the budget I would go for a quicksilver ... it has a faster memoryspeed. Maybe if you are very lucky you can find an MDD for that price...

An MDD won't take his 1.6GHz CPU and unless he gets an 1.42GHz version (which fetch more than 50Euro) he will end up with an overall slower system.
An AGP(3.1) to QuickSilver(3.4) with any (slow) CPU and crappy GFX-card would be o.k (all these take the same CPU-module) as he most likely only need a new mobo.

All assuming that there really is a HW-problem with his current one.

The pci slot is faulty. I don't know if it is damaged beyond repair but it it faulty nonetheless. I have installed 3 different PCI cards and none was recognised by the OS (although the mobo powered them). When swicthed to another slot everything worked smoothly.

Another question: Though I am overal happy with the performance, I thought that 360p yt playback was possible via OWB 1.17 HTML5 rendering. I tried to watch my video (it's on my signature) but it was rendered noticible below 24fps (I would say between 15 to 18). The cpu module reaached 100% during playback. Is this normal?

Just tried with my 1.8GHz and it stutters in "normal" mode. When switching to fullscreen (read overlay) it's seems fluent but still maxes out the CPU.
Which is kinda weird as most videos only use about 40% CPU in that mode.

(actually 25-30% with the videos I've just tested)
