Not sure if this is the right subforum, but every now and again I experience screen tearing (usually around 1.4 of the way down the screen, but it wanders up & down a bit).

I've just noticed it whilst playing a movie under MPlayer, although once I quit MPlayer, I noticed windows were tearing on the Ambient screen too when dragged.

    System is:
    Mac-mini 1.5GHz/64MB VRam with 1GB Ram installed running OS2.7.

    Screen settings are:
Ambient screen is 24-bit 1360x768 @60.71Hz Enhanced display is enabled. Double/triple buffered screens are enabled, "balance cpu usage between refreshing and other processes" is not enabled.

    Video settings:
    VO CGX_Overlay_GUI.
    Vidoe file was an avi, [XVID] 720x304 12bpp 25.000fps, 2257.1kbps (275.5kBps)

    Audio settings:
    AO ahi_dev.
    Audio 48000Hz, 2ch, s16be, 192.0kb/12.50% (ratio 24000->192000)
Audio codec [ffac3 afm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg AC-3)

Oh, and it was Star Wars (Ep4: A New Hope) :-D

    -------------------------

After a reboot, everything is fine, and the file now plays perfectly.

The system had been running probably for about a week, using mainly MPlayer and occasionally OWB. I don't remember starting any other apps, although VNC server is always running iconified, and a client had been connected during this session.
RemoteMouse was in WBStartup (but is now removed).

I'm not sure that MPlayer caused this, since it's not something I would have noticed without dragging windows or playing video files.

This screen tearing crops up every so often, but with a quick reboot it's easily fixed. I'm just wondering if there are any likely causes identified.

Alternatively, if/when this happens to me again, is there any debug info/memory usage info/task lists from system monitor/etc which would be useful for anyone to help track down the cause?

    Regards

    Rich

Try it without VNC Server running.

How big is the file your movie file? Is it on the HD or DVD?

    Hi Matt,

Video file size was only ~700MB.

Will try quitting VNC if/when this recurs, see if that makes a difference.
