I'm toying with the idea of purchasing a:

Mac Power Book 1.67 1139 with a gig of mem.

I currently own a:

Peg 2 with a 1.0 G4 and a 8500 ATI and 1/2 gig mem.

How much faster will the Mac powerbook be over my current rig? Is the video in the Mac faster than the 8500? Bus speeds, etc? what should I expect if I pull the trigger?

Well you get 67% plus in CPU-speed ;)

RAM should be about twice as fast, IDE might be a bit better.

You will get a big downgrade in the GFX-department as there are no 3D drivers atm (maybe in 3.1 or 3.2 or .....).

You also won't be able to go beyond 1680x1050 pixels even if you get an external monitor running (which might not be the case for 3.0).

A PowerBook is a nice extra machine, but I wouldn't think about fully replacing neither my Pegasos nor the Quiksilver with it.

CPU alone will be 67% faster, as MPC7447A and MPC7447 performance per clock is the same.

Yes, Radeon 9700's R300 GPU is faster than Radeon 8500's R200 GPU. But mind you that 3D support for R300 will only come after MorphOS 3.0.

Bus is clocked 25% faster. Bus performance advantage should be even more than that as the Mac's memory controller has a better per-clock performance than the Marvell Discovery II in the Pegasos.

Looks like surfing and general usages will be noticeably quicker, quake 2 will have to wait. Once 3d drivers are done, quake 2 is back on the menu (only faster!).

At minimum 50% in day to day, will be very welcome with 3.0.

Again thanks for making me $400's poorer At least I should makeup time in surfing, surfing on the Peg 2 is painful at best and I simply gave up on it.
