Is anyone else having problems booting from their CD/DVD drive on a G4 PowerMac? Holding the "C" key down during boot to upgrade from MorphOS2.6 to 2.7 produces a boot screen that shows that 2.6 is loading and then immediately takes me to the welcome screen asking which language and keyboard do I want to use to install MorphOS2.7.

I have even tried to boot from the Open Firmware as suggested by the error message I get after clicking on the button to accept the language and keyboard choice, but typing boot/pci/cd at the Open Firmware prompt does not work either and results in an "unknown word" error message. So I tried boot /pci/cd and I get an error message that /pci/cd cannot be opened. Show-devs displays that no devices are active from the Open Firmware prompt, which seems very strange.

I am sure I must be doing something simple wrong, but can't figure out what it is, so I am asking for help. Any ideas?

Edit: When I boot up MorphOS2.6 the MorphOS2.7 CD is recognized with no problems and I don't have any trouble using the CD/DVD drive, which is the original drive the computer came with.

Have you tried holding down the alt key and selecting the CD drive on there?

Yes, I did try holding down the Alt key, but the CD never shows up in the choice to boot from with that method. My CD/DVD drive is identified as CD0: by MorphOS2.6 and works normally, so I am confused why the Open Firmware does not appear to see the drive until later in the boot process.

I have another CD/DVD drive from a G5 PowerMac that I think I will try to see if the Open Firmware likes it better than the one that is in there now. I can't remember if the drive that is in my G4 PowerMac is original, or if I swapped it with an Apple DVD writer some time ago when I had several G4 PowerMacs and a couple of G5 PowerMacs, as not all of my G4 PowerMacs came with DVD writers and I might have switched the drive to build the most capable G4 PowerMac I could put together from the available parts I had on hand.

I am thinking that maybe one way to resolve this problem would be to copy the "boot.img" file from the 2.7 CD to my "Boot" partition and then to boot into MacOSX and "re-Bless" the partition, so that it can be used as one of the Open Firmware bootable partitions again (since IIRC, if you edit the partition in switches it off as being a boot partition).

I will need to re-install MacOSX to do this though.
