Hi, I was an amiga user many years ago and am keen to give morphos a go. I know I should just get a standatd g4 mac or a mini that will definatly work but I like making life difficult for myself. I can get a dual g4 xserve for a reasonable price and am wondering if morphos will run on it? Has anyone tried it on an xserve? I did some searches but didnt find anything.

    Cheers

If the machine is from a friend, you can always try to install it on an empty hardrive ? Otherwise I wouldn't take the gamble unless some developer inhere says he tried it.

Most probably not. Simple rule to go by is: If it's not listed on http://www.morphos-team.net/hardware.html it doesn't run MorphOS.

In this case simply trying to run the MorphOS CD would suffice. No need to install anything to check for compatibility.

Such person would surely add whether his try was successful or unsuccessful, so the prospect of being in for a gamble would certainly be somewhat diminished ;-)

Hmm it might work.. never know. If not it would probably easy to get it to work but those devloper resources must go towards less obscure hw :)

BTW I had installed Xserver software running through MOL on peg2 !!

What is the model and manufacture date of this dual G4 Mac? I wonder what differences it has from the dual G4 PowerMac's? If it uses much of the same parts as one of the supported dual G4 PowerMac's, then there is a fair chance that it might work, or could easily be added to the list of supported Mac models with a little tweaking of the MorphOS install CD by one of the Team's developers.

P.S. I am finally back after working for 4-1/2 weeks on the big island of Hawaii, supervising the completion of a 2.5+ million dollar house that has been under construction for over 4 years. The owners have fired the original contractor and several sub-contractors and a couple of sub-contractors have quit, after taking most of the money they were owed for a complete project. It was not a vacation in any way and I am glad to be home, although as part of my pay, I will be returning to use the house and property with several friends later, after the furnishings are purchased and installed and the final landscaping and swimming pool/spa are completed. It is across the road from the Ocean about 21 miles North of Hilo, Hawaii on 18 acres of land with many fruit trees (mostly Lychee).

Its listed on a local auction site so I am unable to try it before buying. Here are the listed specs:
    Xserve G4 Dual 1.33 GHz
    2Mb cache per processor
    1GB DDR DSRam
    Display card
    2 1GB ethernet ports
    firewire front and back
    2 usb
x2 60GB drives plus additional apple drive module with 250GB drive.

I also thought it may be similar enough to the usual power mac to work. I know i could jusst buy a stanard tower but being an audio geek I have a thing for rack mount kit.
