    Question:
Why did we not go for G5 support rather than G4?
    Will 2.6 run on a G5?
    Thanks

The G4 is much more similar to previous MorphOS hardware then the G5 I'm very happy with my Powermac, and I can wait for the G5.

    It was very blurry.
The g4 has a front side bus of 133-167mhz.
The g5 has a front side bus of 1ghz minimum.
    It is off the chart.
    Were talking modern PC speeds.
I am looking at the Quad Core G5 or the Dual Core 2.7ghz G5.
    No more HD video problems.
    Whooop!

MorphOS 2.6 doesn't support G5. And it will not magically rewrite itself to add support for it.

Indeed. H264 at 1080p is said to work without problems on one 2.7 GHz core.

2.6 is teh current release and it doesn't support G5.
2.7 which is said to come pretty soon will not add support for the G5 either. I wouldn't expect G5 support before mid 2011 but rather in a good year fron now.
before G5 support comes i hope we will see the PowerBook support in a 2.8 release.
Anyway, better don't rely on any future options, but rather use what's here already.
It is fun just as it is now.

Did your expectation change during the last month or did I misunderstand you back then?

As I said before, I think what had been said in Bad Bramstedt didn't sound that way.

A good year from now is no direct contradiction to "about 24 months". A good year is probably the positive way to say more or less the same. And not before mid 2011 is a clear thing of course...

Let's put it that way: I'd be surprised (positively of course) if G5 support comes in less than a year from now and would probably start moaning the more Xmas 2012 will have surpassed w/o a release with g5 support.

About the powerbook: I think we just know 2.7 will include several bug fixes, what 2.8 will bring is AFAIK neither clear nor decided. I expect Powerbook support from in half a year (maybe 2.8 time?) to about XMAS 2011 (rather 2.9 time). I think the Bad Bramstedt event unveiled a cruical information piece for the Powerbook release that made me see the things a bit more positive: WLAN support no longer objected as a "must " for a release.
Well, but of course Powerbook support is still not officially confirmed yet (and while temptation is high, I still keep myself off ebay bidding for one).

From what was said in Bad Bramstedt, I expect PowerBook G4 support to not come until after 2.8. And there're new R100/R200 3D drivers and PowerMac G4 support for PCI cards that don't currently work in PowerMac G4 but work in Pegasos (e.g. SATA) "quasi-announced" for 2.8:

Yes, that had already been revealed in January by pega-1:

I will happy use my 1.8Ghz G4, upgrading the video card when R300 (and R400) support is released. The Powerbook will give use a 1.67 Ghz G4 and Radeon 9700 graphics. Since higher speed G4s can support 720p, I can wait for the G5 and 1080P. Plus, if I pick my X800 XT correctly (when I choose on one to flash) I should be able to move that card straight to the G5.
