How to display in 640x480?

This may sound dumb, but how do I change my resolution to 640x480 or 800x600?

I thought I made this change, the screen flickered, but it still looks the same as when I was in 1024x768. Also when ever I run a game in either of the above mentioned resolutions, it is never centered and goes off the screen to the left.

It could be that your monitor doesn't DDC-report that it's capable of displaying such modes. In that case you'll have to go to Monitors preferences and add modes there.

I did, and I'm using and Emac for the note.
