I am just like many MorphOS users that got very excited when the screen shot of MorphOS2.x being worked on for the G5 PowerMac was released to the forum fanatics. (it's all Piru's fault)

Since then I have been watching eBay every day and it has been so hard not to push that "Buy it Now" button or submit a bid (in fact I have put in some really low-ball bids on a couple of systems). I know it is crazy to buy one now because there are thousands of them out there and hundreds on eBay and that is not going to change over the next year or more. What is going to change is the prices. I see some sellers trying to convince buyers that those high end G5 systems are still worth over $1,000, but no one in their right mind is buying or bidding on any of those. Frankly I am amazed at the fact that Dual G4 systems at 1.25 to 1.42GHz are still selling between $50 to $200 while the Dual 2.0GHz G5 systems are selling for between $250 to $400 and there seem to be more G5's for sale than the G4's.

So, I will keep fighting the urge to bid or buy a G5 PowerMac until either an official announcement is made by the MorphOS Team, or until I find a Dual 2.7GHz G5 system for under $300 and just use it for running Adobe CS3, or CS4 and Final Cut Pro Suite2 HD until MorphOS is completed for the G5 (if ever).

If anyone wants help later getting a G5 from the USA and having me ship it to them because they are rare in their city or country, just let me know, but resist the temptation as long as you can. The prices are falling fast and should continue to do so.

Heh! I know just what you mean.

I've also been watching some G4s (missed out on a G4 dual-1.42 with 27"-ish Apple Cinema display (went for ~?110 ($200), but am even holding off until Powermac support becomes a reality (plus I have zero income at the moment - oops!).

Just forget about getting a G5 (only to run MorphOS) for now, it just has been some sort of "technology demo" which has been shown in a pretty early state. It isnt even sure if this is ever going to materialize for the general public.
The only thing that will materialize pretty soon is PowerMac G4 support including models PowerMac3,1 to PowerMac3,6 with the requirement of a supported gfxcard (so neither ATI Rage 128 nor NVIDIA GeForce2 MX will work) and at least a 500MHz cpu card. The cpu part is still a bit open since we don't have machines with < 1GHz G4 CPUs for testing really and there are some known problems for the original low end 350/400/450/466MHz cards found in PowerMac3,1 to PowerMac3,4
More detail on this will follow.

The only reason I would get a G5 now would be to run all the design and video/audio editing software along side my Amiga Toaster/Flyer system (which all of the PAL World did not get, and I can't understand why since more Amigas were sold there than here). The Toaster/Flyer is still a great editing choice for home videos if you are using a standard definition camera.

But as I wrote before, I would have to get the G5 at a really low price to make it worth my money right at this moment. Then if MorphOS ever comes to the G5 it will just be an amazing bonus, not the reason for the purchase.

    At least Amiga-news.de claims (German):

"Auf Nachfrage von amiga-news.de bestaetigt Olsen, dass der PowerMac G5 eine kuenftige Hardware-Plattform fuer MorphOS sei."
    http://www.amiga-news.de/de/news/AN-2010-07-00047-DE.html

    Translation:

"Upon request of amiga-news.de Olsen confirms the PowerMac G5 to be a future hardware platform for MorphOS."

I understand bigfoot's (alleged) confirmation in a way that MorphOS for PowerMac G5 is *definitely* planned for the future. Of course I also understand that you can never be absolutely sure. Bigfoot could be hit by a bus or be abducted by aliens or something ;-)

That just implies that it's a future platform but not that it will be available for the general public. What you read/make out of it, is a completely different matter.
"Don't hold your breath for it" is probably the only thing I can definitely say about the whole issue.

And that is definitely the last thing about it from me, I'm usually not relying on some (alleged) statements somewhere but on some personal insights.

That's somewhat confusing now. You mean that in the (alleged) statement bigfoot gave to amiga-news.de he may have referred to a non-public MorphOS port, i.e. a port just for himself or some chosen ones to use? I doubt the editors of amiga-news.de or any of the site's readers were aware of that. Going by what you say there could emerge the impression that bigfoot deliberately tried to take them for fool ;-)
