    Hello,

I managed to sell my Mini recently. I am very sad but I gotta collect funds from any possible sources to survive the financial bottleneck of the next few months.

I will be honest, I've always planned to have all Amiga systems possible, so I will be getting a lowend Sam computer early 2011. But as I know a MorphOS notebook is planned, I will simply wait to get one too. I know this is most likely the next release (right?) so could be Q1 2011 as looking at the past MorphOS release pace.

I would really love another dual MacOS/MorphOS machine, all the more portable. I suppose WiFi will make it a 'MorphOS anywhere' computer, also many new application updates are to show off meanwhile. I now know that I will exchange HDD, CD and the battery, ending up on a perfect refurbished device that should not break.

Right now quite nice configurations exist for both MorphOS and AmigaOS (and AROS obviously). But there's one single thing I came up with recently about this "First Amiga Notebook" race. It's cellular network support. That would be great if any effort was put on enabling a GPRS/EVDO modem into MorphOS. So I'd like to ask, mainly the Devs, is this any possible in nearby future?

I had similar chat on AROS forum some time ago as I owe CDMA USB modem and it seamed doable, with some extra effort though. And as MorphOS bases on AROS stack implementations in some cases, does this mean it can too, this time?

One more thing I wish to share here is among other Amiga portals (like awnet or aorg) I find Morphzone most cultural forum, with almost no hatred, no ranting, no trolling. I very much appreciate it. Keep it that way, guys!
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
    Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

Someone recently reported on getting a Huawei 3G / UMTS modem to work on AROS with the Poseidon USB stack.

    AROS Exec

As soon as MorphOS is available for notebooks, I am sure this will be looked into. Right now, 3G routers are very attractive and fairly affordable options for the presently supported desktop hardware platforms.

    @ASiegel

    That's fantastic, man!

As soon as the wifi is landed, I will join a test of my modem. It's EVDO so should be attractive for US/Non-EUR users if it turns running.

I already helped testing AHI sound driver on AROS, alas wasn't working on my computer.

Since USB 3G modems are pretty cheap now, making just particular models work under AROS (or MorphOS then) would make it easilly reachable and affordable by the users.

Plese note that Sam460 specs disclose a GSM SIM slot - they probably work on that too. But Sam's not a notebook :-)

I think next release will only add PowerMac G4 support. PowerBook G4 support will come later than that.

As next release is expected for this Summer PowerBook G4 support may indeed come around Q1/2011.

I think it's the other way round for now ;-)

I agree that a MorphOS laptop is a VERY appealing prospect! So appealing that I just bid and won an eBay auction for a 1.67GHz G4, 17" PowerBook - Refurbished with 120gb hdd and SuperDrive, 1gb RAM which I will probably upgrade to 2gb soon after it arrives at my door.

So........, I will hope that PowerBook support will come with release 2.6, but not be too disappointed if I have to wait for 2.7 to install MorphOS on my nice, "new-to-me", 17" laptop.

Edit: Looking at the video of the PowerBook demo at the Essen Show and getting a reply from a couple of the MorphOS Team members there are only a couple of things left to finish the support for the G4 PowerBooks and neither of the items they listed were critical to using the PowerBooks with MorphOS, so IMHO, they could probably release support for the G4 PowerBook models tomorrow with a minor update to that support a little later this year that included the two features they are still working on. I did not ask how close the G4 PowerMac release was to being completed, or what was still left to do, but it has been said that G4 PowerMac support will be in the next release and that it should be out very soon (mid to late August to mid Sept.) Hopefully we will get both our wishes very soon.

I hope to be able to show both the 17" G4 PowerBook running MorphOS2.6 as well as the two MorphOS machines I showed last year (my MacMini & Efika) at this October's AmiWest 2010 show, where I am running the 2nd Annual Amiga Game Competition this year.

I sincerely hope that they won't delay the release of PowerMac G4 support just to have PowerBook G4 support included in that same release as well. That would be stupid IMO.

No, I would not want them to do that either. But it seems from the reports from the Essen Show and a few comments in the forums that I have read that the Team is very close to being finished with support for the PowerBook. Of course all of us that are waiting for that support are sure to read into those comments more than is actually there, it's that wishful thinking nature that most of us share as humans I guess.

Actually as long as we have another release between now and the October AmiWest 2010 Show where I will be showing MorphOS for the third year in a row, I will be happy, and from the rumors and whisperings around here and other forum sites, that is likely to come true some time in late August or early Sept.

I'll not ask the Dev. Team to delay releasing anything just because of support for a model that I want supported.

I suppose the PowerBook support from MorphOS will generate that "Amiga laptop" that a lot of people are waiting for... ;-) While having played a littlebit with AROS (and somewhat more with MorphOS of course) myself I think AROS on a x86 book is still no alternative. Just my 2 cents.
