I was thinking of purchasing this at maplins tommorrow
and was wondering if there would be any problem within morphos 2.4
with it being an external usb dvd rewriter.

Will it work okay then if not what would be the limitations?

ie will not burn dvds but ok with burning cds on morphos

There is no booting from USB with the Mini...

Because its not reading CDRs only commercially pressed cds.

I have bought a replacement for the internal mac mini but its seems the pata replacements new are starting to be more difficult to track down new.

If i can use this with the mini it would help in the future and also i can use it on my old ibm thinkpad and desktop PC.

So your drive is faulty? Or do the discs work under OSX?

CD drives in MacMinis are known to be really crap... Don't expect anything. Repleacement is not that expensive though...

"booting from USB definitely works. Then whether it also works for USB cdrom drives remains to be seen, but it certainly works for usb sticks, at least. :)"

Hehe never tried with osx, just wiped it and installed MOS.. :)

That's not a booting from USB directly but loading boot.img from the other supported device and then continuing from a USB device.
