    Hello,

My Mini got broken today. All I can see is a shattererd graphics, looks like the graphic card because OSX and MOS start. Looks like the DVI connector moved and caused the damage due to faulty connection. Hence my concerns:

    - is it POSSIBLE to change graphics alone in the Mini?

    - what's the cost on average (is it below 100 Eur?)

    - @Ruud: do you deal with such things? Local apple dealers are robbers really, once told me that HD or CD exchange would cost me... 300 Eur. Seriously.

Thanks guys, having just had my MOS for no more than a week now i feald kindda ***d :-( :-(
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
    Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

Have you tried to open your mini and check if there are no obvious pcb or connector damages, that can be easily fixed?

AFAIR it is not possible to change gfx in mini - it is soldered to the main board. Apple dealers/servises are insanely expensive, so better avoid them.

HD or CD exchange is trivial, I can do such for much less than 300eu. ;)

I doubt it, it's all onboard isn't? I would have thought it would be easier and cheaper to buy another Mac Mini.

I suppose you could re-solder the connections on MB where the DVI connector attaches. Does it work if you wiggle it?

Can you boot from the OSX CD? is that corrupted as well?

Fortunalely after being left calm and after several boots, everything got back under control

    :-)

I am again a happy MorphOS user

    :-)

I guess it was all about DVI2VGA connector - it wasn't winded up properly, and during Mac movement it created some angle disrupting pinout full connectivity. While left for some rest and winded up, all pins are now properly reconnected.

Which automatically creates the need for some local service and pricing catalog. I mean fixing the mini. Or maybe it makes a better sense to buy a new mini? But on the other hand, consider the models like mine, with full RAM (almost), full GFX, I use OSX also.

Anyway I too think apple dealers shouldn't be contacted regarding fixing Minis with MorphOS on it, since one can be arrested for piracy or something, these guys aren't much informed :-)

I would bet because in your country, 300 Eur is some serious money :-)

Yeah, and if they find some Linux or *BSD on it you'll get executed ;-)
