Here's a video I shot some time ago. It shows my PowerBook G4 system booting up the MorphOS 3.0 (development branch):

    PowerBook-G4-MorphOS-3-sneak-preview.mp4

Please note that this isn't official confirmation of any kind. A lot of support infrastructure for laptop usage is still missing, as well as some drivers.

PS. Sorry for the poor video quality.
PPS. We don't need any beta testers for the PowerBook version for now.

@Piru: Thanks for that! The most important thing for me that you are sharing with this kind of stuff. We are not used to this kind of news at all, MOSTEAM is always so mysterious :)

Boot speed is just amazing, even quicker than my MorphOS on Mac mini.

Last lot of power books run faster than Mac Mini, 1.67Mhz, more memory 2 GB, and more graphics memory 128MB, so it should be a bit faster.

Sure. Enhanced Display doesn't use 3d drivers.

I saw an eBay auction for an eMac that advertised it as having 2GB RAM and a 160GB hdd running OSX 10.5.6. I was surprised to see that the eMac could use 2GB RAM, or was that a mistake from the seller?

If I could get 15 to 20 of the 1.0GHz to 1.42GHz models in a bulk auction for around $20 to $35 each, I would buy them and get them ready to run MorphOS2.5 (or 2.6, 2.7, if 2.5 does not support them yet when it is released) so I could sell them at $50 each.

Those would (will) give the AmigaOS4.1 SAM buyers really think twice before they spend over $1,000 for their systems which can't match the performance of the eMac with MorphOS at little over 1/4 the cost of their SAM computers.

I had better stop wasting so much time here and get working on writing those installer scripts to make it easier for newbie MorphOS users to get third party software working. The advantage of me getting the systems in advance, just like RUUD's plans to pre-purchase MacMini's and then configure them and resell them, is that I could do the same preconfiguring of the eMac's before reselling them.

I don't know if I would like to go backward to using a 17" screen size, now that I have been spoiled with my 20" Dell LCD and my 23" Acer widescreen LCD that I currently use with my Efika and MacMini G4 respectively, but for many people used to 13" 1084 crt monitors to run Amiga software, a 17" crt will be a big improvement.

Edit: Pampers, I would like to see that video of MorphOS running via VNC on your PC laptop, please share.

According to Wikipedia, the 2004 and 2005 models can have up to 2 GiB RAM unofficially.

Please note that the 1.42 GHz models have a Radeon 9600, which is not yet supported in 3D.

Amigadave: it's running really slow, as there is some problem with the internet connection on my MorphOS. But i will try to connect straight via LAN and then make a video.

    Bad news from me.
Last week my miggy PwerBok G4 died. Apple repair center told me that it would be too expensive to repair so I decided to give up (for now:-)).
I don't want to buy another used PPC Mac laptop because I don't want to put another 500Eur+ in used stuffs...
I bought the BowerBook one year ago just to be able to run MorphOS but I was not very lucky. :-(
Note that I'm not complaining in any way MorphOS team, it was my forced choice to buy a laptop instead a Mini because I needed a laptop and I don't have space nor money to buy 2 machines.
In the meantime I became used with OS X and I must admint it's not that bad.
So I've already decided to save some bucks and buy the cheaper mac laptop, the new 13" macbook white unibody.
That's all for now folks, I posted this not because I think someone will care about me, but because I was and I'll be always in love with MorphOS and this is a tribute from me for the only real incarnation of Amiga.
Unfortunately now I don't have money to buy 2 machines, RL is hard and expensive, but who knows, maybe in the future... :-)

Do you know what exactly is broken? A lot of the logic board failures are based on rather simple things like bad solder joints.

Are the cathodes and/or inverter faulty (rather easy to fix), the connection (not a big deal) , or is it really the the lcd controller or panel itself. Then, at least you could watch for a spare lcd on ebay or the likes or maybe another defective powerbook that has a working display. With some time and a little luck you should get some spare replacement items.

What is the main focus of MorphOS Team at the moment?

Is it MorphOS 3.0 working on PowerBooks, is it new version of MorphOS 2.x or MorphOS for Freescale MobileGT platform?

I think it's a new version of MorphOS 2.x (namely MorphOS 2.5), maybe (but probably not yet) working on PowerBooks as well.

    > or MorphOS for Freescale MobileGT platform?

Yes, I'm sure Efika 5200B will continue to be supported by MorphOS in the next release. But in case you meant the Freescale Lite5200B or the Freescale Media5200: no, that development port dates almost 5 years back. I see no reason for the MorphOS team doing a recent port to that.

We're simultaneously working on both the 2.5 release and 3.0.

We're not working on any MobileGT support.

MorphOS 2.5 same as before but with bug squishes a couple of little of extra things? Possible, probable(?) eMacs port? Possible Powerbook port for this? or 2.6?

    So what's 3.0? other than
