    Hello.

I upgraded MorphOS 2.2 to 2.3 yesterday and find my Efika more unstable. It simply hangs during boot
because of USB it seems, but I am not sure.

    Typical bad boot sequences:

    1. Stops at bplan loading screen. Continues after a minute or so with MorphOS 2.3 loading fine, but everything freezes when it loads up. Mousepointer and keyboard!

    2. Stops just before MorphOS 2.3 loading picture. Picture becomes grey. Continues after a minute or so with MorphOS 2.3 loading fine, but everything freezes when it loads up. Mousepointer and keyboard!

    3. When it finally boots and I reboot it goes either into face 1 or 2 again, and result is cold reboot as keyboard is totally locked.

After I installed 2.3, this lockups are more often than before. Before it booted normally and I could switch the usb ports if it failed to boot right and I could use MorphOS 2.2. Any ideas what causes this?

On my Pegasos II, MorphOS 2.3 works perfectly :)

Did you update the boot image?
    1 + 1 = 3 with very large values of 1

    Yes.

    1. downloading Pegasos1&2 MorphOS 2.3 ISO from morphos-team.net

    2. opening .iso file in Ambient

    3. copy over efikaboot.img to ram:

    4. rename it to boot.img

    5. copy it to system: partition

    6. update 2.2 to 2.3 by using IWizard (I also tried installing using New)

    7. installs fine after some minutes

    8. boot and fine...

    9. soft reboot and it doesnt want to boot as it supposed to. Out of 5 cold restarts, MorphOS 2.3 boots fine 1 of 5 times shifting between face 1 and 2...

    Hope this helps.

I had similar problems with MorphOS 2.3 and my Efika, when booting from installer image, it loads extremely slow sometimes, it really works but you must wait a lot of minutes to appear a poseidon message that the usb mouse and keyboard was detected, i had similar problems with MorphOS 2.2, it's a very strange problem, and the only solution i found is to power off the Efika for 10-15 minutes, and try again, if you are lucky, then it will work at normal speed. I got this problem also with a complete installation of MorphOS 2.2 (not installer image), but normally works fine.

My guess is that you have some broken boot command options someone was spreading here w/o actually having a clue what they do. Check if you don't have things like rds=0 in the OF boot-command settings. You should simply use 'boot bootefika.img ramdebug'.

I found out my problem. I had a USB Hub and used it. The USB Hub have problems
with MorphOS 2.3 or the other way. When I detached my USB Hub, then my Efika boots without problems.

With MorphOS 2.2 it worked, but sometime I lost connection with the mouse, but I could always reconnect and it worked. With MorphOS 2.3 installed, I manage to boot 1 of 5 times with the same USB Hub connected. It seems as if Poseidon looses contact with the devices and it takes about 40 seconds for it to load into desktop without mouse and keyboard working.

Now my MorphOS 2.3 on Efika works fine without USB Hub connected.

Must be a problem specific to your hub. I've a Dell keyboard with a built-in USB hub, with the mouse (and the keyboard itself too) connecting to the hub, and it works fine with 2.3 for me. (So it did in 2.2.)
