Amiga 1200 Blizzard PPC won't boot to MOS

    Hi... This is my 1st post so be gentle...

    I finally got a BlizzPPC from ebay. An 060 and 603e 200 combo. I also have the Bvision graphics card. I am attempting the Hard Drive Installation of MOS. I have the rom path set to the unpatched 40.68 ROM and the fakerom file removed from the extmodules dir. I also have the bootdevice set to DH5: since DH0: is the primary boot partition.

    I boot to DH5: using the early startup menu and the startup command runs without any errors and reboots. That is as fasr as it gets. I have tried all reset levels. The ones that do completely reboot the system wipes all MOS statup files from memory (Reset Lvl 2 and 6), because my system boots from DH0: instead of DH5:. If I have MOS on the boot Partition and use Reset Lvl's 2 and 6 my computer just keeps running the MOS boot Startup command and reboots indefinitely. I have also tried the idehack module. The HD does access for a second (it doesn't at all with the regular module) then halts.

    There are no resident files running (I am trying this from a cold boot) and the BlizzPPC's maprom function is off.

    After all this time and effort I am rewared with a black screen or foreboding emptyness. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    is the bootdevice argument correct? i can imagine, that if no, you will get to infinite rebooting loop...

    I has very similar problems when I first tried to instal PowerUP on my CSPPC/060 A4000 with CV64/3D.

    The following threads might help?

    Thread 1
    Thread 2

    Good luck!

    Hi,

    Thanks for your quick response. I am using the Amiga IDE with the 4-in-1 adapter. I don'tuse any of the software for it. Just the hardware. The filesystem on all of the partitions is SFS 1.252

    bye, MarK.

    quick responses, Il ike that :) Here is my Startsequense for the MOS Boot:
    ; This is the MorphOS loader startup-sequence. If you set the MorphOS partition as bootable,
    ; this file would cause MorphOS to get loaded on boot automaticly.
    ;
    ; By default MorphOS boots without using the ROM contents of your Amiga. If you wish to
    ; make it use the kickstart contents (to be able to use trackdisk.device for example)
    ; please follow those steps:
    ;
    ; 1) Check if you have a correct kickstart file:
    ; The Kickstart version required are:
    ; Amiga4000/4000T/3000 - 40.68 or 40.70
    ; Amiga1200 - 40.68
    ; Is is advised that you use the unpatched ROM files
    ;
    ; 2) Move or delete fakerom.elf from boot/extmoudles
    ;
    ; 3) Change the kickstart variable, remember to tune the file path

    set kickstart "kickstart=Devs:ROM3.1"
    ;set kickstart "nokickstart"

    ; Bootdevice can be used to specify the MorphOS partition if you have more than one
    ; bootable partition and the MorphOS one doesn't have the highest boot priority. Remember
    ; to use partition names, not volume names! This option requires the 'bootdevice' keyword
    ; like in the example below:
    ; set bootdevice "bootdevice=DH1"
    ; Leave the var blank if you want to boot from the default boot partition!

    set bootdevice "bootdevice=DH5"
    ;set bootdevice ""

    ; The resetlevel and delay variables are there for you to tweak if MorphOS startup doesn't
    ; reboot the machine properly after loading MorphOS files.
    ;
    ; The possible resetlevel values are:
    ; 0 exec/coldreboot (System Reboot)
    ; 1 MMU switch off + normal reset in chipram (default)
    ; 2 MMU switch off + double reset in chipram
    ; 3 MMU switch off + Cyberstorm HW Reset in chipram
    ; 4 for (;;);..waiting for manual reset by your hands:-)
    ; 5 MMU switch off + normal reset in fastram
    ; 6 MMU switch off + double reset in fastram
    ; 7 MMU switch off + Cyberstorm HW Reset in fastram
    ;
    ; NOTE: most common setting for BlizzardPPC is resetlevel 1 and 5 for CyberStormPPC!

    set resetlevel 1
    set delay 2

    ; Load the MorphOS loader!

    cd sys:boot
    startup hal=roms/hal.com1 kernel=roms/kernel.com1 abox=roms/abox2.com1 module=roms/module.com1.idehack resetlevel=$resetlevel ramdebug verbose debug EDebugFlags="NoLogServer NoLogWindow" sumkick disableled delay=$delay extmodules=extmodules/#? $bootdevice $kickstart

    I have tried MOS from the main boot partition using set bootdevice= "" with no luck either.

    I hope this helps.

    Thaaks,

    Thanks for the Link info. I am going to try booting MOS from a statndard FFS partition. That is pretty much the only thing I haven't tried.

    Did you already try with different resetlevels, e.g set resetlevel 5?
    I initially also had problems with SFS 1.52, I renamed the filesystem to an older version (1.210) and it worked! I found the hint on MZ, so you might want to search for it.

    Will do. Unfortunately I am still having no luck. Same results. MOS startup reboots, quick HD read, then it just sits there... black screen. The madness!

    Don't give up. I had the same problem trying to get PowerUp to work and then suddenly -- success. Unfortunately I'm traveling at the moment and away from my A4000/PPC and unable to provide more information.

    download and install my first test disk for user PPC.
    copy to boot system disk and hard reset / cold start.

    http://savefile.com/files/469654

    AGA compatible, FastATA 100% compatible, Amiga bootmenu.

    Thanks. I will give this a shot. you say test disk, do I install this on to the MOS partition, replacing the existing files and will it Boot to MOS then? Sorry for all the questions

    I won't be near my Miggy until next month. I will try it then and hopefully it yields some better results :)

    this files copy to AmigaOS partition
    (before backup normal startup-sequence) and start...

    aha start with SCSI disk to remove "disablescsi" at startup in
    startup-sequence.

    It boots, partially... There is a lot of text output in the MorphOS Log window. Debug info? Boot up halts after about 20 seconds of Hard Drive activity.

    Hi,

    UPDATE:

    It can can get the Emulation to boot up using a Workbench 3.1 Worbench disk. There must be incompatability issues with my Hard drive installation of OS 3.9 and some of the hardware and hardware patches I use.

    Though I have disabled all patches in the startup-sequence. I am no closer to getting Morp OS up and running that I was a month ago :-?

    What do u mean by that? Can u say something more about it?

    Does the Fata run under Mos PUP with its full speed and compatibility?

    Hmm. Say a little bit more!

    Hi,

    OK... MOS won't boot at all. I have tried the Amiga emulation and it works if I boot from floppy. Like a workbench 3.1 disk. It runs fast. If I try to get the Amiga Emulation to run from Hard Drive (my standard Amiga OS 3.9 partition), I get error logs and the after a few seconds the boot process stops. I ssume it is something with my set up, software and or hardware.

    Tell us more and post your errors.
    I suggest you to install MOS on fresh and clean HDD with the FFS that come from WB3.1
