Any plans to support 16bit screen modes for G5's?

    By now I could identify that the AGP setup of the Radeon driver often fails for the G5. This is also happening for some Radeon9600 cards but they silently fall back to PIO mode (This might explain the speed issues some people reported). While PIO mode is obviously faster than pure software rendering, it still has a considerable impact on rendering performance compared to AGP/DMA mode.
    For 9800Pro/XT on G5, this fallback mode doesn't seem to work at all, causing the mentioned "unresponsiveness".
    We are working on it to fix the issue ...

    I have always had issues with my powerbook g4 messing up on bootup sometimes with graphics trash at the butterfly screen. I just reboot.
    I have only had this happen rarely with the G5 9600pro setup.
    Clearly an issue with graphic card initialization.
    Possibly a timing issue.

    I just reboot to fix it.

    Nice offer, but Frank already has one I just sent him (if it works as it was an Apple card I could not test - no G5).
    And post four does pretty much sum up the situation.
    Its being addressed.

    Downgrade for awhile.
    Its what I've done.

    This is definitely unrelated to the problem mentioned in this thread. But it is some kind of initialization problem of the PowerBook display panel most likely which has been reported in the past but is difficult to fix.

    I'm still getting that with my 15inch powerbook, never seen it on a G5 though.

    It seems pretty common, happens on mine quite frequently on 3.1 and 3.2.

    Never had any trouble with the 9650 in my G5 though.

    @Frank

    I have a genuine Mac Radeon 9600 XT card here I could send you for testing if it would help you at all?
