I just noticed that my screen shows random flashing white or color small strips (sort of flickring dashes) when displaying black backgrounds. I'm using an Appple 17" Studio display. Is there anyway to adjust the settings to fix this?

After running several tests using 3 different monitors of the same model, Apple 17" Studio and getting the same problem (color dashes flashing in dark backgrounds); problem that doesn't show when using the same 3 monitors with Mac OSX, it might be concluded, or at least one can make the hypothesis, that this particular monitor is not supported by MorphOS 3.0.

Of course, this need to be restested and validaded by someone else with more experience and using the same setup: Mac Mini G4, connected to the 17" Studio display using a Mini DVI-DVI, DVI-ADC adapter (which is nowadays more expensive than the monitor. The Mini DVI-DVI, DVI-ADC is a 3-way cable with a power din-type connector, USB and ADC connection.

So stay away from this monitor for now.

I would suggest finding another monitor that works with your MacMini while running MorphOS3.0 and can also work with the same display settings that the 17" Apple Studio Display can use. That way you could create an Ambient screen with the settings that should work on with the 17" Apple Studio Display, while you are connected to the other monitor and save those settings as your default settings. Then just shut down and switch monitors and see if the 17" Apple Studio Display will then work.

I think the combination of adapters is probably making things more difficult for MorphOS to determine the native settings of your Apple Studio Display, but that is only a guess.

Personally, I would never want to go back to using any monitor that small again, and considering how cheap 20" to 24" monitors have gotten recently, I think you should buy one of those instead of wasting your time with those 17" Apple Studio Displays that need a combination of adapters to connect to the G4 MacMini.

Thanks amigadave. Since I'm new with MorphOS would you mind guiding me how to save those screen settings?

UPDATE: Today I went to a local Mac repair store to test my Apple 17" Studio Display, to see if I was having problems with the ADC to DVI cables or Apple's original power brick. To my surprise the display worked flwalessly attached to a PowerBook using exactly the same cables and power module.

I don't know if someone else is experiencing the same mysteriou problem of the flashing color dashes on the screen, but one thing is for sure, it only happens while running Morphos.

I'm using a Sharp 17" LCD monitor instead and it works very well. It is a pitty though not to be able to use my cool looking original Apple 17" Studio display, until perhaps there is new driver written specifically for it.

Go to MorphOS Preferences, Monitor, edit your screenmodes. I had some stripes on dark backgrounds using some custom screenmodes with my Samsung, changing some values helped.

@ korni - I tried every possible combination under Preferences > Monitors and I didn't any better results.

I am wondering if someone else is using an Apple 17" Studio display who may be able to share his working settings with me.
