    Hi there,

I have upgraded my PM MDD to MOS3.0, hoping to put my SATA PCI card (sil3512-based) to good use.
Problem is, when I just plug the card in MOS boots but when I connect my 160GB SATA drive it refuses to boot.
Any idea how to troubleshoot this situation?
    TIA

You need Mac firmware to boot with the card.

This was our first reference for the 3512:

I tried that but the flash tool reported a "bus error".
    What could it mean?

    @Jim

No you don't (need a PPC flash).

Been running a standard PC 3112 for quite a while now.

Sure I can't coldboot from it, but don't really want (as I keep the HD RDB-partioned).
A small 4GB CF-card on the onboard IDE does all the hard work (contains both boot-partitions for MorphOS and Linux + an emergency MorphOS) while both MorphOS and Linux (sys: and /root) are on the SATA-drive.

I got also 'bus error' when I tried to flash the card in my MDD, I flashed it at work in my G5 without any problems

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I get around to installing the 3512 based card I have.

    Neat idea Kronos.
I hadn't thought of separating the OS like that.

Actually, my main purpose in buying the SATA controller was to have one of the controllers cabled to an external eSATA connection so I could use my FAT32 formatted external drive (at better speeds then USB allows).

    OK, so
    - any 3112 or 3512 should be recognized and useable by MorphOS
    - to make it bootable and useable under OSX, it must be flashed

MIne doesn't work under MorphOS so I seem to have a very basic problem. Maybe it is broken and that's why I can't flash it?

don't flash it (It's not a mac one card); you need to boot from other unit (the HFS for exemple in the PATA inside unit, or in the CF card ...) and use the SATA hd for System:, work: ...etc... in SFS/PFS3...filesystem

Well for now it won't work neither under MOS nor under OSX, so I have nothing to lose here.

I'm not sure WHAT you mean by "its not a mac one card".
The firmware listed is fairly generic.
And you can make a 3512 OSX bootable, so I can't see why that wouldn't work under MorphOS.
