Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 2002 - No sound

Hmm, can't get any sound. I assume that it's supported as it mentions "Also, audio is currently only supported for PowerMac3,4 to 3,6 models."

This mac under about mac is a 3,5. Sound works fine under OSX so I know it's not a hardware issue. So I can only think that I'm missing something?

Anyway any ideas is much appreciated :-)

Sound does work on a 3.5 but ....

My experience was that you needed to change the sound settings a few times back and forth to "wake up" the sound chip (this was under 2.7).

Another issue I had was that StartupSoundPrefs had no effect on this puter (works quite nice with the various other Macs around here) so I decided to use brute force as I just can't stand that stupid jingle. I unplugged the internal speaker and installed an SBlive (those can be had for < 10Euro/$ on ePay).

I also use a soundblaster .. it's better and besides that what else are you going to use those PCI slots for ?

Uh, I use a SoundBlaster too, but I'm now out of PCI slots (and, if I was Andreas, I'd point out that they're actually PCI-X slots).

No, I wouldn't point that out. Actually, I'm of the opposite opinion, and I was wondering about your PCI-X comment over there one month ago. But now that you mention my name, I feel I have to set this straight.
Some time back, I think you and me established that the G4 PowerMacs do have PCI (2.1 or 2.2), since its clock frequency is only 33 MHz, as opposed to that of PCI-X which must be at least 66 MHz:

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?forum=3&topic_id=7638&start=42

Do you now have a source of information that actually says the PCI in the G4 PowerMacs is 66 MHz rather than 33 MHz, so that it would be justified to call it PCI-X rather than PCI?

I stand corrected. Since these slots are virtually identical to PCI-X slots, but they operate at 33MHZ they are technically 64-bit PCI slots.
Sorry for assuming anything related to your opinions Andreas.

I don't know if the card you have posted would have worked under MorphOS.
But as far as I know this one does work:

    Hope this will help you.

I'm not familiar with that card either, but it does mention that it uses the EMU10K1 chip which is similar to the SBLive.
Of course, since I've never paid more then $7 for an SBLive, I'd look for that specific family.

Have ordered a SBlive and an NEC usb card so waiting for those to turn up, of course had to order some speakers. Starting to get an expensive setup LOL.

Anyway if all goes to plan and the help I've received here and on amiga.org will be installing grunch and a couple of other things :-)

Ahwell I'm having fun with it thats the main thing.

My LCD monitor has a couple of tiny speaker, so I haven't bothered to connect anything else.
I hope you didn't over pay for those "expensive" options.

Wasn't too bad $18 SB Live, $10 speakers, $5 USB card. LOL. Need to order some more RAM, 512MB SDRAM and some way to boost the speed a bit more. :-)

If I can get UAE tweaked then one happy camper. :-) Haven't tried a competition pro joystick yet have two on my x86 box so will give that a go this weekend :-)

You over paid for the SB Live card, but everything else looks right.
    Have fun.
