Mouse lag - Mac mini G4

    Hi,

A new user here, running Morphos 2.7 on Mac mini G4 1.5GHz with 1Gb RAM, 64 MB VRAM.

I have a pretty annoying mouse lag, it is like the pointer is 0.2 sec behind the actual mouse movement. The overall sensation is like the pointer has a rubber band attached. On top of that, sometimes (not always) the pointer is more likelly to move in horizontal and vertical direction, if you move the mouse quickly in circles the pointer follows a shape of a square with rounded corners. All together it makes it feel like the 1350 C64 mouse (digital joystick emulation) in GEOS if you know what I mean.

I tried different mouses (5 total), different screen modes, color depths. The hardware is ok, Mac OS on the same machine - no lag, the same mouse attached to a4000t also ok.

    Anybody had similar issue?

Any other USB-devices involved ?? If so, connect mouse directly to the Mini and unplug the KBD before powering on (there are some really crappy HID-devices outthere).

Yes, I had the mouse connected through a hub, and later trying through a KVM switch. When connected directly it works fine. Bummer, I was hoping to reduce clutter on the desk.

I'll try getting some USB->PS2 adapters, separate for mouse and keyboard and run PS2 cables to KVM. Maybe then it will be recognized as mouse, and not some generic HID.

    Thanks!

There isn't anything wrong with useing hubs (both my systems have their mice routed through the hubs in apple-KBDs).

Same goes for KVM-switches or PS/2-adapters, they are all known to be working. It's just that the one hub you bought seem a bit flaky.

Dunno what you mean with "generic HID", when in Prefs->USB->Devices it should be listed as HID(Mouse).

You might also look for any "low power" markings in USB-prefs (especially if your Hub has no PSU).

It's been a while, today had the first chance to look at it again, and yes, in USB devices there is a device named just "HID (0B38/0010)" - (this is the device name that was popping up when I was plugging USB cable from KVM, while when plugging mouse directly the popup was "HID (Mouse)) which has three interfaces, including keyboard and mouse. In the mouse hid.class device settings there is "Turbo mouse" list, and choosing 1000 Hz (whatever this is) my mouse works just great through a KVM.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I didn't realize that poseidon stack has so much customization and information options. I'm a happy camper now !

I guess that's the mouse position update frequency, i.e. 1000 times a second in this case.
