    Hello,

Now i have received my external optical drive enclosure and tested it on my mac mini, I would like a firewire card for my PC.

Having read the firewire wiki page it seems to suggest that firewires performance is very much dependent on the quality of the chipset on the card.

Have people on here had this experience themselves of variable performance dependent on the quality of their firewire card?

Any recommendation as to which chipset to look out for or brand of firewire card for a PCI slot or PCI express x1 slot in a PC?

Even one to avoid will be helpful.

    thanks for your time

    Martin

I hope someone can help you with this. Personally I rely on eSATA and USB 3.0 for PCs.

I installed this one in my sisters PC and it's working great for her. She uses a hard drive and video camera with it.

Any idea what chipset it has?

I have been recommended by one person that the oxford chipset is a good one to get.

No idea, I just got it because it was a fair price and it worked.

Vendor of this PCI card seems to be startech.com and this card seems to have a LSI/Agere FW643 PCI/Firewire chipset.
But don't know anything about its quality. Try to search on Internet.
    And now... next project!
