    Hello,
what options do exist to extend audio-capabilities of a MorphOS-device?

My macmini only has a single headphone-plug.

What suggestions do you have to deliver digital output from that?

    Some adapter?
    Maybe some USB-device?

    Thanks

    Andreas,

Do you really think your (non)answer was the best way to help the original poster?

You provide this link to a previous thread:

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?forum=11&topic_id=6835&start=26

Which does not answer the question, but does contain a post by you that has a link to another thread:

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=7951&forum=11&start=15

Which thread does not answer the question either, but contains another post by you that contains yet another link to another thread:

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=7619&forum=11

Which again does not answer the question but contains another post by you with two links:

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=7602&forum=11&start=1

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=7095&forum=11&start=5

The first link gives the answer, which is NO, as seen in this quote from that post.

"pciusb.device (the actual usb hw driver) which doesn't support isosynchronous transfers which are required for streaming audio/video via usb.

There are currently no plans to implement isosynchronous transfers in pciusb.device."

The second link is for a thread that has only one post asking about USB Digital Voice Recorders that received no answers.

How you can think that you are helping anyone by posting links like this, instead of just linking to the original thread that actually contained the answer he was looking for, or just answering the question yourself, escapes me.

Don't you agree that providing the answer in your response, or linking to the original thread that provided the answer would have been much more efficient for the original poster?

This is just one example of many where your links in threads do not provide the answers to questions being asked, but only lead to more links to other threads, but I suppose that you simply use the search function to provide the latest link that is related to the OP's question and over time this leads to what is happening, links to links to links which might eventually provide an answer if the OP has the patience to search through all of the links and all of the posts in each and every linked thread.

    True.

    > Which thread does not answer the question either

False. It's a direct link to an extensive explanation given by MorphOS Team member geit. I'm not sure why you're looking for other posts in that thread.

    > How you can think that you are helping anyone by posting links like this

I don't think that 2 clicks (yes, it's really just 2) will overtax anyone.

    > I suppose that you simply use the search function to provide the latest link that is

    Yes, that's part of it.

Huh? There's no need to "search" through any links or posts, just to click. My links always go directly to the posting which either has the answer or has another link that should be followed, not just to some random posting in the thread as you seem to believe.

    @GMKai

I share your desire to improve the Mac mini audio output - mine suffers from horrible interference from Graphics, USB, CPU & hard-drive operations (not solved by isolating the groundplane unfortunately).

As Andreas_Wolf points out, there are limitations (lack of isochronous support) preventing use of USB audio devices.

As mentioned in this thread, however, there may be the possibility in future to use Firewire audio devices, however I'm unaware how much progress has been made in this direction.
I see it more as a 'will be nice if/when it arrives' development, and just suffer with my mac-mmini's crappy sound for now. ;o)

    so far no luck.

I would like to go for some cable, adapter then that converts the headphone plug to something else e.g. HDMI...
Does anybody know of such device?

mac mini is in another location but Powerbook connects to Sony Bravia via DVI/hdmi for the video and headphone plug cabling for the audio. The mini and Powerbook support home theatre audio in Mac OS X. Not sure about MorphOS
