Dual Display from MorphOS3.x?

Will we be getting dual monitor support any time in the future while running MorphOS3.x? Extended display, not mirrored is what I am hoping for. I have a pair of 20-inch LCD monitors that I would love to be able to use with extended display capabilities while running MorphOS3.x in the future.

Also, is work going on to support the DVI out to external monitors from the G4 PowerBooks in MorphOS3.0, or a future version of 3.x?

CyberGraphX, hence MorphOS too, supports multi monitor setups. You just have to install several supported graphic boards.

I tried with a voodoo4 in my powermac, no luck. Using both outputs on a single card would be more interesting tough.

That said is there any other alternative operating system besides windows and macox that has this ability ?

Well Voodoo3+Radeon9000 worked here..... but you may need to juggle PCI-cards around to get results.

I should have specified my question to dual video outputs from the same video card. Is anyone working on such support now, or likely to do so in the next 12 months?

I might have one PCI slot left open to place a second supported video card into. Which seems to be the only choice for a second video card in a G4 PowerMac?

Has anyone even tried to use a supported PCI Radeon video card, or are all of the supported Radeon video cards only AGP, or PCI-X, PCIe and won't work in the PCI slots of any G4 PowerMac?

Just would be nice to have the extra monitor real estate now that I have two 20" Cinema Display monitors side by side for use with my G4 and/or G5 PowerMac's. For some reason I have not gotten two monitors working on my G5 PowerMac with 9600 dual DVI head video card. There is only one Cinema Display monitor shown in the System Preferences, but I have confirmed that the second display works by plugging it into the DVI output from my PowerBook.

You might want to read that thread:

Thanks for the link. I guess I will just have to wait for the Devs to see this as a feature that is important to them, if the work to support dual displays is not too difficult to improve over what is available now.

I could look for a VooDoo 3 card, but the comment in that thread about it over-heating makes that option sound like NO option at all, unless his card is faulty in some way. He probably just needs to install a heatsink and fan on that video card to solve his problems. Specially since he mentions that he has already reduced cooling inside his PowerMac with quieter fans.

I have fixed my dual display problem on my Dual 2.7GHz G5 PowerMac. I forgot that I had placed a different video card in it for testing a while back and it was a 128mb Radeon 9600, not the 256mb Radeon 9650 that came in my G5 PowerMac. Not sure why the 9600 does not support two 20-inch Cinema Display monitors, but perhaps it does not have enough memory to drive two 1680x1050 32bit displays?

It is nice to have 3360x1050 pixels of desktop real estate to use now while running MacOSX. I have not tested it with Ubuntu PPC 10.10 yet, but think it should work.

Not too many applications on MorphOS would require so much space, and it will likely be a long time (if ever) before any G5 is supported by the MorphOS Dev. Team, but it is still something to hope for in the future. This would make such an awesome MorphOS system! I use it much more than my Quad Core 3.0GHz Dell XPS 630i tower with Windows Vista Ultimate (I refuse to upgrade to Win7, unless I can get it for free).

    On the side,

You should reconsider about that win7 upgrade... it's not too bad compared to Vista.

I would consider it, if I needed to run Windows more often. To let you know how often I need it, I have not even booted that computer since I returned from the AmiWest Show in late October.

I keep it because my CAD program of choice is not available on anything except Windows and there are a few other programs that I use occasionally that are also Windows only, or I have purchased the Windows version and don't want to re-purchase the MacOSX version to run on a slower dual G5 system.

In other words, I only use Windows when I need it for a specific program that I can't run on MacOSX, Linux, MorphOS2.7, or AmigaOS3.x.
