As mentioned in this thread I had a problem with the Radeon 7500 so I decided to try out a Radeon 9600 Pro from a G5 I got for $0.99. I removed the resistors R60 and R15 as referenced HERE, but no luck.

The computer turns on but there is no video signal to the CRT SVGA monitor. This mod seems to be hit or miss with Quicksilver models.

Anyone here try this out themselves? I'm wondering if the AGP slot is not providing enough power for the card? May I try I modifying the card to give it addition power? I'll do a little searching for specs and info but input would be appreciated. If I don't get it working, I won't cry for losing $0.99. 8-)

Don't you have to cover or remove some pins on the contact insert also ? My first Aplle with MorphOS was also an 800Mhz one ... I swappd the cpucard for a 1Ghz DP and that solved all trouble.

I think you can choose between removing these resistors or taping the pins 3 and 11 on the AGP comnector.

IIRC there are some electrical incompatiblities (not related to this ADC issue) between the AGP4x Powermac G4 (Digital Audio and beyond) and the original ATI Radeon 9600 Mac and PC edition. But there are third party or self-hacked versions which work.

I've found an article about that here

    analogkid,

Hmm, the problem does go deeper. Thanks a lot for the link!

I'm not sure you can use the original ATI Radeon 9600 Pro/XT "Apple" from PowerMac G5 in PowerMac G4; If I remember correctly I had problems with these cards time ago ... well I' ll receive a 9600 from Apple G5 original in next days ... so I can tell you if usable in Apple Macintosh G4 with AGP 4x (from Digital Audio to FW800).

try a simple ATI Radeon 9200 or 9250 AGP (full supported in MorphOS2.7) for PC and flash it http://www.nonsoloamiga.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=133 (also ATI 9800 are easy to flash :) )

I confirm, you can NOT use the original ATI Radeon 9600 Pro/XT "Apple" from PowerMac G5 in PowerMac G4 (tried now)

That's not surprising. Both the G4 and the G5 deviate from the AGP standard (in different ways).
If there was an easy way to use G5 video cards in a G4 I would have already been doing that with the R400 cards.
It's just simplier to modify PC cards. And if you only tape pins 3 and 11 you can remove the tape later and install a card that you originally used in a G4 into a G5.

yes sure, infact flashed ATI 92xx and ATI 9800 from "PC world", to be used in PowerMac G4 and G5 (usable in MorphOS2.x/3.x, OSX 10.3.x, 10.4.x, 10.5.x and Linux)

There is one complication. The tape solution is fragile. You need to assure that the tape is intact whenever you re-install a modded PC card.

I've damaged one FireGL X3 this way and a friend has apparently damaged a Radeon 9800 Pro I modified for him.

I would consider a resistor or pin modification, but I want to be able to use these cards uin G5s later.
