I want to test this mod on my spare Quiksilver: http://sites.google.com/site/jonathanrenaudg/home2

It says I need a 22ohms resistor... On ebay I can find these, but they come in 1,2 & 3 Watt variants. Is there anyone with the knowledge who can tell me if it does mather ?

That resistor is probraly just rated 0.25W or less and would be 10ct (or less) at your local electronics-dealer.

Putting in a resitor with a higher wattage does noc harm.

Sounds tempting, but as I understand it this would push my G4s to just under 2GHz, not sure if they could take it.....

Actually I never tried it so far ... I do have a spare "Digital audio" today that has the same motherboard layout... maybe I should try it.

It's definitly not an option for me at the moment as I allready have some serious airflow problem in my QS....

Might move it into that big C=Gaming tower I've got sitting around collecting dust later this year. But not before this very PB gets Morphed since I don't plan to drag such a beast to any user-meetings.

Why overclocking in the first place? Our systems provide more seed than most people here need.

Even when using Blender, why taking the risk of getting an unstable system just to finish a rendering half a minute early?

If you could together all the time you waste in getting the system 1-2% (probably less) faster, updating its cooling, reworking the power supply to get it more silent again, will it ever pay back when actually using the system?

Will it save at least the time you spent updating it? And if the system dies out of nowhere, was it worth the risk?

Put in an SSD and there you have a nice speedup for your system. Without any additional risk it starts faster, responds faster and is even more silent.

    geit,

Because we can and in many cases it is a low hanging fruit to pick.

If it is unstable, you don't keep it overclocked.

We are not talking 1-2% here.

Mild to moderate overclocking shouldn't seriously shorten the life of a system if done right. Tinkering is half the fun. I don't see computers as a consumer appliance such as a VCR.

Things don't have to be one or the other, do them all! :-D

Come one m8 it's just pure fun :) I've OCed my MDD from 1.42 to 1.67 and throwed in SSD as well - pretty fast machine it's is now (it was previously as well but hey ;)

Hmm, while I tend to give Geit right regarding CPU overclocking, it might be a different situation if it comes to FSB overclocking. You are surely driving some components over its specifications, but I think there's more to gain than from CPU overclocking.

Will MorphOS recognize this? If I overclock the bus speed that is?

I tried this and it is nonsense, the procedure in that link does nothing at all to my Quicksilver 2002.

I'm not having too much luck with Google, but this link may provide some insight. That link pertains to the Sawtooth model, but may give hints for Quicksilver. I got my Quicksilver cheap and it isn't registered yet. I'll experiment a bit, if I let out the blue smoke not much money lost :-)

I gave up. At least for the Quicksilver 2002, you can file this under "doesn't work".
