Well, after reloading OSX and adding the necessary driver I reinstalled my modified FireGL X3 video card into my Quicksilver Powermac.
Under OSX the card is working flawlessly.
To update those I haven't mentioned this project to, initially I wanted to find out if an ATI R400 based video card could be made to work in a G4 Powermac.
I found a few sources of information that indicated that while an Apple X800 XT would only work in a G5, that a re-flashed PC card would work in both (provided that before installing in a G4, pins 3 and 11 were masked).
I also found out that the FireGL X3 was based on the same chip and could also be re-flashed for Mac. Plus the X3 is a single slot card (while the X800 XT is a double wide card).

Anyway, here's your confirmation, the R400 based cards do work in a G4.
I'll save the ROM from this card in case anyone else wants to follow my lead. Now all we need is for the developers to release a driver. We don't need G5 support to run these cards and they will plug straight into a G5 if we upgrade.

The next question I have is can we modify the Mac X800 XT BIOS so that it can be installed on an X850 XT and operate at that card's slightly higher speed.
This would be the fastest card we could use with the R400 drivers that Pega1 mentioned.

    Currently there is an X850 XT on Ebay listed @ $39 + $10 S&H.
