When R300 acceleration is introduced, will I be able to run some of the more obscure R300 variants? I have two firegl X1 cards, one with 128MB and another with 256MB. Both can be reflashed with 9700 BIOS.
Thid would make the second card the only available 256MB 9700.

    Hey Jim,

How do you know that the 9700 bios will work with those FireGL cards? I am still looking for a source to download the correct Mac bios file for a couple of ATI Radeon video cards that I recently purchased to test in my dual 1.25GHz G4 PowerMac, so if you have a good source for Mac bios files, I need to check it out to see if they have the ones I need for my 8500 w/128mb VRAM and 9700Pro All-In-Wonder w/128mb VRAM.

You won't have that tongue to stick out if/when you decide to sell the Peg2 and upgrade to a G4 PowerMac.

You should consider selling that Peg2 to someone that is more interested in running AmigaOS4.x in addition to, or instead of MorphOS2.x, before the SAM460 is released (is it released already?), as that may influence some of the potential buyers for your Peg2 system. Not knocking your Peg2 system, it is a nice computer and the best solution for people that want to run both AmigaOS4.x & MorphOS2.x on the same machine.

Re-flashing is a bit of a pain, but not too difficult and only a one time requirement, so I will accept the extra trouble to get the added performance.

A complete SAM460 ... is still going to cost a lot more compared to any PEG2 and still it will be the only solution for running both MorphOS 2.x and OS4.x

About the GPU, I just bought myself a Radeon 9000pro with 128MB mac edition. It's more expensive compared to reflashing, but when R300 support comes out I can resell it for more or less the same price I bought it for (78€) and get me a faster card. When I have to search for flashable card, together with shipping costs ... I have to pay around 40euro also and I still have to bother with the flashing.

Yes, you are right. Peg is the only box that can run both OS4 and Morphos. I'm one of the people you talked about Amigadave! :) If they could really get "timberwolf" into a nice beta state that works it would be worth running os4. I also can run a couple of apps I cant on morpos apparently from a ocuple of forum reads...

The FireeGl will reflashperfectly to a 9700, I'm not to sure about the 256 model because the available BIOS are all for 128MB card.

The FireGL X2 (a 9800 variant) can also be reflahed, but you've got to move a resistor beforehand.

Thanks for the info, could you provide links to where you found it, so I can include them in the article that I am working on for the MorphZone.org Library?
