Has anyone else noticed how fast this venerable card is at 2D operations.

Out of curiosity, I installed one of these I had lying around and frankly as long as I don't run software requiring #D functions this card's quite responsive.

When comparing the Voodoo 3 to older Radeons, 2d operations appear to be significantly faster.

This makes me curious. Are any of you using the 4500 or 5500 card? How well do they support 3D?

You are comparing non-enhanced display on Voodoo to enhanced display on a Radeon most likely. Better to a vmem bitmap blit speed test or memtest vmem to compare the actual speed difference.

Well.. I think Voodoo is bit undervalued card nowadays.. at least when talking about the speed. If my old test (from 2006) can be used for some kind of comparing, it really seems to be faster than slowest supported Radeons (especially r7000) and partly faster than any Radeons. Of course drivers and all have changed a lot after that test, but I still would believe it would kick r7000's butt :P Other features might make Radeons more appealing though...

Based on simple tests run under Windows, the Voodoo3 2000 has a 2Doperation rate about 50X that of the earliest accelerated cards. While 3D operations produce really low numbers, the 2d benchmarks clearly place this far above the Radeon 7500. I haven't had a chance to test other Radeons, but it would not surprise me to see similar results.

I just thought that it was remarkable that such an old card could perform 2D ops so well.
