I haven't seen much on this subject, does MOS support SATA/SAS controllers added via PCI? Reason I ask, I may get PMAC g4 for upcoming 2.5 and want SATA for leopard/MOS super speed. If there is a certain controller I need to get, please let me know :)
    My Macs:
    Powerbook G4 ALU 1.5GHZ 15" 1.5GB OSX.5.8
    Powermac G4 MDD 1.5GHZ OSX.5.8 MOS2.7

Want a part for a Mac? Let me know, I'll see what I can do.

Amithlon is amazing, questions and help I can provide.

There is no Morphos support for SATA atm. You could use an IDE<>SATA bridge though..

uuuh yeah not the point. Anyways, if no sata support in 2.5 i'll have to get ultra ata 133 card or a fast SCSI card for pci. Oh well, worth a try.

Those cards will of course also require drivers to function under MorphOS.

You're not going to see a significant boost using a PCI ATA133 controller over the built in controller (which depending on the PowerMac model you choose would be either ATA66 or ATA100). ATA133 hard drives will operate on either of those earlier interfaces and in testing those drives on those interfaces I've found minimal impact from the slower interface.
In plain fact, ATA133 hard drives rarely max out the bandwidth of their interface.

Just for completeness's sake: The smaller variant (PCI version) of the first PowerMac G4 has ATA33.

I'd go as far as stating: never :-)

    Good point Andreas,
I didn't consider those because of their low processor speeds, but they'll probably be supported as well.

Low cpu speed to me is 600mhz or less, 650-1.9 is okay, beyond that is great in terms of macOS. But, i'll take this to heart. i will get a G4 with the ata 100 because I plan on putting at 200gb drive in my mos machine at least, need to beat my old workstation's HD size :).

That's what I'm aiming for myself. Somewhere between 1 and 1.42 GHz with ATA100 an controller. Basically that would be one of the last Powermacs, but they're so common that even these aren't that high priced.

Just wanted to remind, i had major trouble when using a scsi controller in the peg together with more memory then 512mb.
I tested serval ones. 512mb, everythig ok. 1 gb, the system went crazy (the debug log got written full).
And no, it was not the memory modul.

Is 80mb/s that much faster (considering the cost of SCSI drives). I know a 10,000 rpm SCSI drive is fast, but how much faster than say a WD Raptor, would that be?
I assume your talking about a PCI controller. How do we contact you if someone wants to buy it?

Painfully obvious (if I'd only looked at the link at the bottom of each message).
    Thanks again, Andreas.

    Hey Jim

Not sure about the 10k scsi drive vs Raptor but i'm guessing maybe raptor is faster - though you can get SCSI drives cheap now.. I actually have a 10k rpm Cheetah Seagate drive I can include as a package deal.
We sold a lot of these boards when Amiga guys were migrating their Amiga drives to Pegasos!

And yes its a PCI controller and very well made the connectors are metal they dont make cards like this quality any more!
