Have any of the dev team ever thought of making a server edition of MorphOS? The PPC Xserve, for example, is still in much use around the world. If you packaged MOS with server drivers and much of the required server software this could do many things:

You could make more money because you would increase the user base.
The price currently is inexpensive compared to other server OSes
It would allow you to stick with PPC hardware longer, there are many models to cover.
    It would attract more developers
You would also save potential customers lots of money, because they wouldn't need to upgrade their server.
    My Macs:
    Powerbook G4 ALU 1.5GHZ 15" 1.5GB OSX.5.8
    Powermac G4 MDD 1.5GHZ OSX.5.8 MOS2.7

Want a part for a Mac? Let me know, I'll see what I can do.

Amithlon is amazing, questions and help I can provide.

MorphOS is not a server OS: it lacks both security and reliability (memory protection).
    1 + 1 = 3 with very large values of 1

Okay, as for security, why did Winserver 2003 sell so well? It has MASSIVE security holes. As for memory protection, I know it would be hard to implement and maintain amiga compatibility, not to mention other things.

Anyways, itix, it was a thought for the future, not to be taken to make a quick, dirty port to the Xserve G4.(or any other Server for that matter) And neither would I need a server edition. Your part of the devs, so you may take this as you wish. I just happened to have this thought, and of course it would need several improvements, but consider these pros for MOS as a server OS:

Lightweight, low footprint= better server performance
Multitasking= More capable of filemanagement, traffic handling and whatever else it may need to do.

Also, consider the following things that a server version of MOS may not need:
    Trance
GUI (some servers may not require one, others may)

Of course, I'm still VERY new to MOS, not even owning a capable system atm, so I may have omitted or be missing some points. Anyways, as a fan, I respect your opinion and your dedication/hardwork. If you do a port to Xserve G4, with server specific stuff, i'd buy one and a license, even if it was higher priced than the workstation version

The only way I would want to run MorphOS on a server is on a virtual machine hosted on one. The idea of using MorphOS as a server OS is just insane, sorry. MorphOS lacks all features needed and brings *nothing*.

Agreed, a port to the XServe to use as a server doesn't make much sense. A port to the XServe to use in a 1U studio environment, however, might fill a niche.

But with all the hardware out there that could potentially run MorphOS, the XServe should probably be the lowest priority.
