    Actis PVGA 1722

This PCI card has only 8 MB of graphic RAM but has a 24-bit LVDS interface.

    Specs:

    PMC Graphic Controller
    XGA Resolution up to 1280 x 1024
    200 MHz RAMDAC
    8 MByte memory
    24-bit LVDS interface
    18-bit LCD interface
    Analog RGB output
    S-Video output
    33/66 MHz PCI bus
    3D rendering engine

If you create a driver for this card, and add some HI-NRG re-chargeable Batteries, you could realize an Efika laptop solution... :-)

The only advantage is LVDS interface and (maybe) power consumption - what is surprising there is no power consumption specified on the application note, it is very important factor for embedded computing, but well, the chip has no radiator, so one can expect below 2 watts. Then we have only disadvantages
    - Radeon 9200 SE is the same size as PMC version.
    - Radeon 9200 SE has ready, matured drivers for both Linux and MorphOS.
    - Radeon 9200 SE has 128 MB of VRAM. 8 MB is pathetic.
    - Radeon 9200 SE is ten or more times cheaper (I've found no price on the webpage, but looking at other prices, this company isn't cheap).
    - Radeon 9200 SE on the included riser does not increase Efika dimensions (the height is set by Eth/USB combined connector, not AGP riser, width and length are not changed.).
    - Radeon 9200 SE has more powerful 3D engine.
    - Radeon 9200 SE needs no additional, expensive riser.

The only way to get sizes of real laptop is to redesign Efika and add onboard graphics chip.

..and last but not least, it's not actually a PCI card...

iBook is using ATI Radeon 9250 SE I think. Works great, so this is a good idea.

Genesi. What are your plans really? Maybe you could get into talks with new Commodore and let them design the new MorphOS laptop?

Genesi. You should do a small survey on what people want on the morphos laptop and find out what people really wants to pay for one of worlds first Amiga compatible laptops?

The "new" Commodore like all other PC vendors, use a very small number of large manufactures to build the computers they sell. Its simply put, they put a name on a machine they didnt actually make. As for laptops there are less the 5 world wide building them for everyone. If we want one we will need to do it ourselves since ZERO PPC ones are made now that Apple is all Intel.

The best idea is to take a case out now, gut it and make it work.

Nope... I found an AGP modern card equipped with 64MB of memory...

    See other thread...

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5222&forum=11

64 MB of graphic memory are really enough for many laptops still nowadays, but there are persons here on Morphzone (like Krashan) who find 64 MB not good enough, and they want at least 128 MB of graphic memory onboard...

Please follow discussion in the other thread and quit and close this one thread topic that is now obsolete!
