Does anyone know how to resolve issues with USB2 and an external USB2 HD.

    I have tried 2 different USB2 cards 1 VIA and 1 NEC.

Whenever I plug the drive in I think (errors are in another language) I'm getting read/write errors and kills the port. The drive works perfect in my USB2 port on my PC and in my USB1.1 port in my peg2 as well.

Both cards give the same results.

I have played with the class settings to try and make it work with no results.

    Any ideas?

Poseidon drops the unit dead and a System Requestor pops up with:
    UMSD:
    Lesefehler 42 bei Block 7743

I'm given the option to Wiederholen or Abbrechen.

    If I Wiederholen nothing changes.
If I Abbrechen another random Block appears.

    My log in Poseidon follows:

    The error means:

Read error 42 at block 7743.

    Retry (Wiederholen) Cancel (Abbrechen)

(I guess the error is caused by fat95 which AFAIR hasonly german error messages ;)

The question is why it happens. YOu could try to tweak massstorage settings for that device a bit and see if it helps. Different settings for "Simple SCSI" or "CMD6->CMD10" or "NAK timeout" could maybe help. But I never tried USB2 myself on the peg, so I don't have any experience here concerning it. Maybe someone else knows a bit more and can speak from experience.

    regards,

If you use the supplied installer those error messages can be in any language you like. (German, English, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Polish and Russian are supplied.)

    Hi Roschmyr:

I don't think that is the issue here.

The drive is dumped immediately after I plug it in.

A flash drive works perfect with USB2.

I will register if I can get this to run, but the only reason I pickup up the USB2 cards is to run my backkup faster. If I can't get it to work, I'm taking back the cards and will revert back to my PEG2 1.1.

    Take care,

    Matt

Before I registered poseidon here, it would mount my flash drive ok, but my external hdd would be killed during mount (due to the larger fat table?). The flash drive would be killed after relatively little use though. How extensively have you used usb2 flash drives?

    Thanks Golem:

I don't frequenlty use the flash drive at all. I copied over a small 20k file to test it and that all.

I didn't realize that a large fat would not mount without registration.

I will now register with Chris...

I greatly appreciate the quick help.

    Merry Christmas!

    Matt
