For all of the G4 PowerMac owners here that run dual boot (or triple boot) systems on any model of the G4 PowerMac and who also want wireless networking while they are running MacOSX, here:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-Wireless-WiFi-Card-Mac-G3-G4-G5-Airport-802-11-b-g-/220603457124?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item335cfd9e64

It is a PCI wireless NIC that is recognized as an "Airport" card and needs no drivers to operate. Or so the claims are of someone on the GList mailing list member who posted the above link.

I have purchased a NetGear WNCE2001-100NAR and tested it as working well on both my 1.5GHz G4 MacMini running MorphOS2.7, and my "First Contact" AmigaOne X1000, running AmigaOS4.1u5.

For some strange reason I have not yet figured out, I could not get it to work with my 1.67GHz G4 PowerBook, while running MorphOS3.0 beta, but I will continue my attempts to get it working with both of my 1.67GHz G4 PowerBook's, as that was the primary purpose for the purchase of that NetGear WNCE2001-100NAR device.

It is nice to have wireless Internet access from my 1.5GHz G4 MacMini while running MorphOS2.7, but I wish to have that same functionality with both of my 1.67GHz G4 PowerBook's as well.

    Nice board David.

But I really like the NetGear WNCE2001-100NAR you've mentioned as you say you've gotten it to work under MorphOS.

Its a pity it does work (at this point) on a Powerbook, but it makes a great option for other G4 Macs.

Yes, I like the NetGear WNCE2001-100NAR better too. It is so easy to swap between any computer, or even any electronic appliance that needs a network connection. I am sure that it will work with my G4 PowerBook eventually, as it should work just like any other Ethernet cable connection.

I wonder if any other MorphOS users have had any difficulties establishing an ISP connection while running MorphOS on any Mac computers, or if their MorphOS Internet connection speed fluctuates wildly from 300Kbps, down to less than 20Bps and then back up to some faster speed. Mine does not usually vary that wide, but I rarely have a steady connection speed and almost always see my download speed fluctuating between fairly wide speed differences and wonder if other MorphOS users are experiencing the same download speed fluctuations?

I don't think that the MorphOS Dev. Team recognizes that there is any problem with the current Ethernet port drivers and/or TCP/IP stack for MorphOS, so I don't think any work is being done to correct this problem, if it is not seen as a problem.

I should start another thread to find out how many other MorphOS users are experiencing the same download speed fluctuation problems as I am seeing on all of my Mac G4 models running MorphOS. It happens on my 1.5GHz G4 MacMini and my dual 1.42GHz, as well as both of my 1.67GHz G4 PowerBook's running MorphOS3.0 beta, so I would like to know if it is just my WLAN & LAN causing the problems, or if there is some problem with the MorphOS Ethernet driver, or TCP/IP stack, or some other component of the connection software in MorphOS?

I would say it seems that it's only your WLAN & LAN causing problems because I also run MorphOS 3.0 beta on Powerbooks as well as a MacMini and a Pegasos2 and with all the latest ISO's I do not have such speed problems. In the past, with 2.7 on the Mac Mini I did have this though, but I seems it has been corrected as it works now, for me at least. I can also confirm, that I use the MorphOS computers on 2 different places with completely different internet provides/connections, one is air ADSL, the other is by cable, and both work fine, either connected via cable or WLAN (btw, I also use the WNCE2001). I even have several color laser printers connected via WLAN to MorphOS computers, using the WNCE2001, works fine also.

    @rms,

I am glad your problems that you noticed in 2.7 have gone away now that you are using 3.0beta.

You probably have a later version than I do, as mine has not been updated since Oct. of last year.

I don't doubt that some of the problem could be my ISP provider, or my cable modem and router that also provides me with my WLAN within my house, but the speed difference I have tested with only the cable modem connected to my G4 MacMini and then with the same connection to my Vista PC and repeated tests using the same Internet speed test site with both MorphOS and Windows Vista Ultimate using the exact same connection to the same cable modem within just a few minutes of each other shows about 2/3 speed when using MorphOS2.7 compared to Windows Vista Ultimate.

I'll just wait and see how MorphOS3.0 turns out and do some new testing then. My suspicion was that any problems might only be in the Mac models, not your Pegasos and I have not tested my G4 PowerBook's connected to an Ethernet cable enough to know if they shared my problems with fluctuating download speeds, but I have had some trouble obtaining a connection, even with known good Ethernet cables and connections that work with all other computer platforms that I use the same cable and connection with.

So...with 3.2, does a WNCE2001-100NAR work on Powerbooks and iBooks?

There's a shareware Atheros driver for PPC OS X:

However, I'm not sure if it can still be registered.

You need something like this. I am using it myself with my iBook.

    http://www.amazon.de/computer-zubehör/dp/B004U8SFBE

I am using a 330ge, which is basically the same just without 3G support. It gets power from USB and connects to the LAN connector.

You acces it using owb, tell it the SSID and password to use and that's it. MorphOS connects via LAN and DHCP to it. I use the same to get old devices like my playstation2 into wifi.

I tried something similar to this (a wifi bridge), but it needed additional software.
Thanks geit. You've got a great website, btw.
